Advantage to not paying off cruise?

I was wondering if there's any reason not to pay off my cruise now? We're still about 15 months away from our sail date but I have the money to pay it. We booked through a TA if that matters.

If I pay it off, will it prevent me from being able to do anything?

Thanks!

I was in the same situation, paid it off way early, had to cancel one of my rooms (before the actual pay I full date), had no problems canceling or getting the full refund. I also used a TA. It was nice knowing I didn't have to worry about paying it off.

Just make sure what your TA's cancellation policy is.

Really, the only downside is that the money is earning interest for DCL, and not for you.

You just won't get any interest on your money if you give it to DCL early.

I'm putting my tax return in a CD and paying off the cruise when it is due. That way I have the money set aside, but it is still mine.

I ended up paying for as much as I could way in advance to earn the 5% that the Disney Visa offered in the beginning. I just left a balance of $100 on the cruise fare JIC. I paid that last bit off right at PIF date. But I paid for as much as I could during those three months that I had the higher Rewards being earned. I certainly wasn't earning that much in interest in my savings account

I was thinking the same about earning interest but right now I have an extra 5% off at Target in addition to the regular 5% off. This will be a better deal than earning interest!

That's what I was thinking. At current interest rates the amount gained is negligible. I pay off my cruises as soon as I can. They belong to me then. But I tell ya, money sitting around just has a bad habit of getting spent. That said I also believe it is a personal decision.

Totallt agree. With interest rates at less than one percent paying off my cruise is a no brainer for me. And you are right money always has a way of getting spent if it us sitting around

I totally agree I would rather have money towards a cruise than sitting here wanting me to spend it

Thanks everyone for reassuring me! I just thought if I paid it off now the TA may offer a deal or something between now and the cutoff to pay and I wouldn't be able to get it! Looks like I'm going to Target this weekend!

Question from a rookie - what do you mean by "they belong to me then." Does that mean once you pay it off you own the reservation (and don't need to go thru the TA)? Or do you just mean it's paid off and you don't have to worry about paying later?

I meant it purely as. It's my cruise. Doesn't belong to Disney they can't take it away if I'm late paying off. Doesn't belong to VISA so I can't get charge crazy finance charges for it. It's not subject to minor emergencies eating away at the money I had set aside to pay it off because I'll never cancel a paid off cruise. It's a state of mind you could say.
