Nemo's review of Ft Wilderness Cabins.
Once they named the storm NEMO I should have suspected Disney would be in our future. We were vacationing at Bonnet Creek (which, by the way, despite the large and luxurious accommodations is poorly managed and simply not for me), when we were unable to fly back to RI on our departure date. BOO HOO! Poor us, STUCK in Florida while it was 38 degrees in our RI house! Last minute decisions led us to a Fort Wilderness cabin for a few nights and I've got to tell you....I'd take this over Bonnet Creek any day. The cabins could use some updating but they have everything you need for a self-sufficient kind of Disney stay. Golf carts are overpriced but ESSENTIAL and fun. We've picked up many a stranger in our golf cart and delivered them to their destination. Buses are plentiful and run often. It's quiet here...you would have NO IDEA we were very close to the chaos and crowds of the theme parks. The guests here are very friendly and are quick to tell you about themselves...they're camping folks....that's how they roll. Would I come back and stay here again? Ummmm, maybe....I do love my Boardwalk DVC. Am I thrilled to have stayed and experienced this....OH YES!!!! Thank you Nemo. You're a cool fish.

Good for you! We love the cabins but like you, would take BWV first over anything. But we pay cash, so for budget reasons, the cabin is wonderful. Plus no noise over your head or alongside you, no one running in the halls or chatting on their way to the elevator - that quiet is just wonderful!

We were in the cabins 2/1-2/6 and enjoyed it too! Didn't rent a golfcart but found we never waited more than a few minutes for a bus! Very quiet at night too

We stayed in a cabin for our son's first trip in 2010. While I LOVED the whole layout, the golf carts, the pool, the quiet, etc etc...we actually had a bit of a cockroach problem. At least I think they were roaches - they weren't that big, maybe 1/2" - 3/4" long, but they were there, in the kitchen and bathroom.
I don't know why our cabin had them and MIL's did not - maybe because we had the food in the kitchen. But it creeped me out I would absolutely stay there again if I could be sure I would be roach free!

Even with the somewhat "outdated" interiors and definitely in need of a refurb I still absolutely LOVE the cabins!! We've stayed at many of the deluxes and DVCs and just have to say the cabins have become OUR favorite! And last week we even attempted a trip WITHOUT renting a golf cart (because they are overpriced and we needed to be frugal). Now we do have a car so driving to other resorts in the area=very convenient. And, honestly the buses weren't bad at all, like mentioned above and we were there almost those same dates, I don't think we waited more than 5 min (ok maybe 10 once & that was up at the outpost to go back to the cabin) for a bus. (can't say that about SSR's park bus waits, sometimes 30 min!) I thought we'd really miss the golf cart and I have to say it was worth $65 savings each day. (we did miss our drives thru the RV loops checking out the lights & decorations tho) The biggest thing though is I LOVE the peace and quiet at night, no one next to you, no one above you, no one yelling down the hallways or corridors or banging their doors shut, no flushing toilets... FW CABINS RULE!!

![]() On the bolded part - I did that once for a young couple waiting for internal buses...it was sweltering HOT that day and I felt sorry for them waiting. However, after doing so, I wondered about the liability issue if someone were to get injured, fall off, or I just simply got into an accident while operating this rented cart with strangers on board. Nice as it may be, I don't think I'll be doing that anymore... Quote:
We've stayed there many times and never had a roach problem, thank God... Quote:
...and ditto on the peace and quiet after the hustle and bustle of the parks...love for FW!
