Stranded Cruise Ship - Does it Make You Nervous to Sail?
I just saw the the news about the stranded carnival ship in the Gulf of Mexico. I feel so bad for those people - what an awful way to spend a vacation!
I have only sailed 3 times, once on Princess and twice on Disney. Does anyone know if Disney has an emergency plan for a situation like this? We have a cruise coming up in October on the Fantasy and I'm already a little nervous because it's going to be hurricane season (yes, I'm getting trip insurance). Usually Disney Cruise Line is up there with the best when it comes to safety, however the whole incident when the ship was damaged while sailing in a hurricane a few months ago shook my confidence a little. Do things like these make anyone else nervous to sail? I just hope that if something like the situation with Carnival ever happened on the Disney Cruise there would be a better plan in place for food, clean water, restrooms, etc. I guess we'll never really know unless it actually happens. (which of course I hope it doesn't!)

Rather be on a cruise ship without power than an airplane! Planes crash every year, but we still fly to get to the cruise.

Nope not nervous at all. We are sailing in 11 days can't wait. As long as the beer is cold and the sun is hot I'm good!

So far in this case, Carnival is doing what they can and their actions make sense. In answer to your question.......I would sail DCL and RCL again no problem! AKK |

It makes me nervous to sail Carnival... That's twice in a couple of years.

Nope, anything could happen anywhere. Life is too short to stress over those kinds of what ifs. I have bigger issues that make me scared then what if I pick the one Disney cruise this year that might have issues(or plane, bus, hotel...)

It doesn't make me nervous, but it is making my sister nervous. We sail on our first cruise in 18 days and the news about the Carnival cruise being stranded is making her a little crazy.

Most accidents happen in and around the home -- it's probably safer to travel.
How many ships are currently in operation, and how many times do they sail each year without incident? |

The three most important things in transportation: Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance. Obviously, I don't know for certain what caused the fire and it could happen anywhere to anyone but given the track records involved, I'll fly the "Qantas of the seas" (remember from Rain Man where Hoffman would only fly Qantas?) |

Absotively not. I may not cruise CCL, to include many of their subsidiaries (I'm looking at you Costa.) But I'll stay with DCL and hope to try RCCL soon.
