Do they like adventure, dothey like fun, do they like freedom, do they like the sun, do they like good food, do they like nightclubs, do they like pool time, do they like luxury, do they like good production quality shows, do they like meeting new people? If yes then they will have a good time. Drinking age onboard is 21 and strictly enforced by 18 year olds are allowed in all adult venues including pools, nightclubs.

Our kids that age had a ball on DCL. We just cruise last June on the Fantasy with slight older "kids" and they absolutely loved everyting about the cruise.

My 16 year old son and I just had that discussion. We booked a Disney Cruise for December because he wanted to do a Disney Cruise before he turned 18. Because the 18 year olds cannot go into the teen area he felt that after he turned 18 he would want to cruise on RC where they had the wave runners, rock walls and more bar entertainment. With that said, it depends on what your 18 year old likes to do. There are lots of things to do but is it the kind of thing they like to do?

They have upped the programming for the 18-21 crowd. They now have a full time counselor that plans and organizes events. The last two cruises we have been on since the 18yo change have gotten rave reviews from that crowd. Granted, we have been on NYE cruises but I would expect that June cruises would have a larger group of 18-21.

Let me warn you...at events like the Captains reception where alcoholic drinks are served via roaming servers, the servers will serve the alcoholic drinks to anyone that may look close to 21. My 16 yo was served champagne on NYE by the bar staff until she was fall down drunk. She ended up in the medical center when officers saw her fall. I talked to the head of dining/bar service and he basically pushed it off on security. They took no responsibility for serving 16 yos alcohol. It wasn't just my DD but her friends as well. I agree that part of it was her fault but I cruise so I know she doesn't have access to alcohol. Bad assumption on my part.

I took my 18 year old son on his first cruise this past August. We were on the Fantasy. This is a very difficult age group for Disney cruises. My son loved everything about the cruise, except for the fact there were very few people his age interested in going to the 18- 21 cruise meet meetings. He went to about 4 of the meetings ( they are scheduled each day with different events) and unfortunately only a few people would show up) He spent the majority of the cruise, looking for people he thought might be in his age group, but was not very successful. My personal opinion for this age group would be to choose a different cruise-line. As far as his father and I, we will never sail anything other than Disney. It is wonderful. We are cruising this summer again on the Fantasy by ourselves, no children. My younger son (15) spent the entire cruise at Vibe(the teen club) He loved every minute of this cruise. It is definitely a personal preference.

I know when I was 18-21 I loved the cruise I went on went on 4 cruises between those ages and loved them. Some of the cruises had more people my age then others, but that was alright. I actually ended up making friends with the staff and other cruises not my age, but older. I'm 24 not and have been on 17 DCL cruises, with 18 and 19 coming up. If they like meeting new people, trying out different things and traveling they will most likely enjoy it

Same here. We had to move the DCL cruise we set up for our DD's 18th birthday since it would have fallen in the middle of the cruise. So we moved it up to Easter. She wanted one more time in the Vibe. She is not interested in going as an adult at this time. Our DS (19) bailed last year and went on a different trip.

Our son will be 18 next month. We did our cruise in January this year b/c he thought he wouldn't enjoy "just hanging out" on the ship. He LOVES the teen zone and does all the teen activities, but knowing my son, he would have been bored as an 18 year old.
My twins will be 18 their senior year and they both feel that another cruise line with more things for that age group is more appropriate for their senior trip. These two are very "young" for their age so things like dancing at the night club, watching the adult shows, or sitting by the pool would be boring. They would like playing in the adult pool, but honestly I don't think the adults would like them!
Like a PP said, if your teen is the type who likes the nightclubs, and dancing and sunbathing, then they will have a great time as an 18 yr old aboard. Knowing our kids temperament we have come to see that while DCL is our very favorite cruise line, sometimes we may need to switch it up to make sure everyone has a great cruise!

My son requested that for our cruise last summer we wait until after his birthday, so we sailed a couple of weeks after he turned 18. He LOVED being able to go to the adult areas. He went to Palo with us. He hung out in the pool and hot tub in the adult area, went to some of the adult shows at night. He completely loved it. We're planning another cruise with him when he's 19, and he is all for it.

There is a group for them that meets everyday. It really depends on what time of year, how many are on board, and how many attend. We went in October during my DD18's college fall break. I believe there were 15 or so of that age group onboard, but there were only 3 of them who went with any frequency, DD included. She liked doing their meets and got to know many of the entertainment CMs also. She didn't have any previous experience with nightclubs prior (not sure how she would have being 18 ), but she enjoyed them with her new friends. I am sure if we had gone in June like origionally planned, there would have been a lot more people. My DD loves everything DCL, so all of it combined made for a great trip. I can't really say there would be anything different on another cruise line as far as meeting people, except the fact that the drinking age is lower on some of them. Just ask your child what they would rather do.
