Maybe you guys can answer this or me... Why did the BC put in Juliet balconies? Nobody really likes them. Was BC built 1st & they decided on all full balconies for YC? I just don't get the purpose of them.

Ugh! What a time to be sick hope you're feeling better soon, and not too long without power. At least you can have hot food!

One winter we had no power for 3 days. And my stove is electric. At least I have a gas water heater, so could have hot shower!

Stay safe.

We love SciFi for lunch. I've always had a good meal. Love the Rueben sp? Sandwich.

We ate at the Brown Derby last Aug. loved the salad. I had that as my lunch. And the grapefruit cake

GF has a few different tea services to pick from. And a gazillion types of tea. We had the sandwiches, scones, and pastries. It was called The Buckingham.
Allears.net has the menu.

I thought HH looked good too. Was there doing Sunken Treasure research now if only they could get rid of the millions of wasps buzzing around. No way I could sit at that bar.

I've been told that if you have specific room requests it's best to wait and check in on arrival.

Here's the section from the FAQ on Page 1 of this thread about room requests and on-line checkin:

How do I make a request on my reservation? How many requests should I make? What should I request?

You should note any requests on your reservation through Disney's CRO (Central Reservation Office) or your travel agent can add it when your trip is booked, or anytime thereafter. Requests should be made no later than 2 weeks before you will arrive at the resort.

Please remember that requests are not guaranteed.

The fewer requests you have, the more likely there will be a room available that meets your most important preference(s).

Your best bet is to request what you want in words, not room numbers. The chance that a particular room will be available during your trip is not as likely as finding a room that satisfies your room preferences. If you request a specific room, and there is someone staying in the room on the day you check in, the room assigner will have to place you in a different room. If they don't know what your priorities are, they will have trouble giving you another room that has the attributes you want.

When you arrive at the resort for checkin, you can ask before you take your keys if your requests were granted, and if not, see if there is anything available that meets your needs. Please note that you should do this through REGULAR checkin.

Online checkin is designed for grabbing your keys and going, no questions asked, so if there is a possibility you will ask for a room change, you shouldn't do this.

There may not be a room available with the request you made when you check in (e.g. full balcony, daybed, king bed). If your request is important enough that you are willing to change rooms later in the week, ask when a room will be available and see if you can arrange to switch rooms.

Requests vary because what is important to one family may be different for another family. Some popular requests are full balcony at the Beach Club, a day bed, close to lobby (or elevator or Stormalong Bay), close to Concierge Lounge (if you are staying club level) or close to EPCOT.

Should I checkin online in advance or wait until I am at the resort?

As noted in the responses above, if you don't have any questions and if you are going to just grab your keys and go, then you are great candidate for the online checkin. If there is a possibility that you will ask for a room change because you are not satisfied with the one that has been assigned to you, then you should wait until you arrive at the resort to check in.

.

Hope this helps! The second section provides the answer, the first explains why.

Yes, you are correct they take requests into account when doing online, but "things change" (cancellations, etc), so the conventional wisdom is that live check-in gives more wiggle room, so to speak (and also allows you to try to ensure that they dont miss anything). However, it is also true cl has limited inventory, so presumably less of a difference (but others can correct me), and thus cons of online seem to be less of a risk. Moreover due to ltd inventory, i could also see scenario where online checkin people "use up" the rooms you want within cl, but that is pure speculation. (Of course, in a month or two, there may be a huge pro to online-accessing the fastpass plus system, but NOBODY has publicly released precise timeline). Have fun!

I have not seen the answer to this. Once I think someone speculated that the resort looks more architecturally pleasing with the mix of balconies, so that could be why.

But I don't like it either!!!

WOW! Use of the word speculate in two different posts within a minute!

Just wanted to add to the EagleScout's reply above:

I think the main reason to do the advanced online checkin is so that you don't have to wait in a potentially long check-in line*. At CL, the line is going to be the same (usually none) whether you did online or not.

* Although with the new MDE stuff, that may change and there may be further advantages.

Your room should already be assigned based on your requests and I don't necessarily think the online checkin will have an impact on whether or not the room requests are granted. I think... The online checkin mainly ensures that your keys and packet are ready when you arrive. You don't have to wait for the info to be entered into the computer.

I haven't done the online checkin. What are the options provided for room requests? It's still a set checklist, right? Or can you add a request in words?

I'm honestly not sure if checking in 10 days in advance, with a request of a full balcony gives you a better shot at the balcony than if you just arrive and checkin at the desk in person.

Anyone have opinions about that?

Hey Dee!
Good to see the green dot by your name. Guess you guys made it through the storm OK?
Sounds like a lot of folks in your state without power. That would be the pits.
Maybe they can recover reasonably quick.......
And to all those folks out there working in less than ideal conditions

Thanks, Mike!

You are correct- there are some dedicated workers- power, medical, fire, police- out doing important jobs no matter what!

It was very smart of the folks who put in the travel bans for non-essential personnel. Really helped keep people safe

We were very fortunate- no power loss here. Maybe about 20 inches to 2 feet of snow in our neck of the woods. It was difficult to tell with the drifts.

A lot of difficult, sad stories out of the storm, though. Coastal homes were hit pretty hard during the high tides.

Positive thoughts and energy to our friends out there still dealing with the aftermath!
