To Dyson or not to Dyson?

Our vacuum is on its last legs and we need a new one. To Dyson or not to Dyson? Who has one? Love it or hate it? Alternatives? Cheapest place to get one?

Dyson... But in the $300 range. As far as a $300 vacuum it is very good. But I wouldn't spend way more money than that. I have the dc33(?) the yellow one and paid $250.

It is a vacuum, not a miracle machine.

I love our dyson. Its a few years old. We have the slim line model. Got the floor model at kohls and we saved a bundle.

Even my ds dont mind vacuuming with it.

I have the DC33 yellow one too. I like it, but I might have to replace it. It is about 6 years old?

DH began using it as a SHOP VAC!!! He said, it never loses suction, right? WELL, not 100 % true, if you use it to suck up sheetrock dust from sanding, and he did this a number of times. Plus, sawdust. Smelly sawdust.

I now know how to take it apart (watched YouTube videos with step by step instructions).

I love it though. Will get another when this one needs replacing. I see them on Woot.com sometimes, or on Amazon specials. I saw them at Costco (you can return stuff there forever, so it is like having a free warranty). People get them at Kohls, when they have a 30% off coupon, and at Bed Bath Beyond, using their 25% off coupons.

We've had our Dyson for...4 years (I think) it's a purple one (not the animal though) and love it. My parents just replaced their vacuum and although my mom wanted a dyson, she went with a Shark...around $200 and very similar to my Dyson. The reason she went with the Shark was because after using my Dyson, she hated how hard it was to take apart to use the hose and extensions (I have no trouble with it because I use it all the time and am used to it). She likes her Shark and it works just as well as our Dyson.

I have a DC28 Animal.

Pros: great suction, bagless, bin empties from the bottom, has attachment that is very flat for getting under furniture, long cord

Cons: edging not so great so must use wand on edges and corners, very heavy, hose for attachments is stiff and hard to use

I like my Dyson. It's not better than my old Miele but I am happy with it.

We had a wonderful time, but did have our moments!

Pretty much down to my hips on one side, but nice and perky on the other

We hated ours and recently replaced it. It just never seemed to have adequate suction... maybe we got a lemon?

Have you looked at the Shark? I had a Dyson for 4 years and it was great but then it broke and I really didn't want to pay over $300 for a vacuum that only lasts 4 years. I started reading reviews and bought the Shark. I actually found it at our Costco a little over a year ago for only $100!! I LOVE it. It works just as well as my Dyson did and it was more than half the price. If I ever need to buy another I would re-buy my Shark in a heartbeat.

There are many, many threads here already discussion Dysons. Try doing a search; you'll find a lot of opinions. As I posted in the most recent thread, vacuums are rated in the March 2013 Consumer Reports; take a look. They never rate Dysons highly.

I have a dyson...7 yrs old. I love it! I use it everyday. Just yesterday I went to use it and realized my hose was broken. I called figuring after 7 years thry wouldn't still cover it and I would have to buy a new one.... After a short 5 min phone call they sent me a new one free! This is the kind of customer service that I will remember when I go to buy a new vacuum (which I don't expect to happen anytime soon)!

Best Buy has the Dyson DC 28 Air Muscle on close out price for $280. That is a great discount. The org. price on that was $650. I have the DC 25 ball and love it. I will never own another vacuum besides a Dyson. Nothing cleans as well as that does.

I got the yellow Dyson a few years ago on an endcap at Target marked down. I paid about $170 for it. I have loved it! Still going strong

We got rid of our Oreck (which I HATED) and got the Dyson Animal Ball. I love it, but I do wish it did the edging better without getting the hose out.

The one that has worked the best though is our original Rainbow vacuum, but I hate using it!
