Pigeon Forge in March?
I'm trying to plan a Spring Break trip for this year and I'm looking into the Pigeon Forge area. Our week off is the last week of March and I know here in NY we can still get dumped with snow that time of year. We are willing to drive the 12 hours it will take us to get to PF, but we don't want to end up not being able to do a lot of stuff because of the weather. We are hoping to do mostly hiking and outdoor stuff when we go, so would late March be an okay time for that? Thanks for any info

March is chancy. I've been in Pigeon Forge the first week April and had snow. It was very pretty, but still snow.

Darn, I was hoping there wouldn't be the chance of snow down there by then.

Sorry! I remember the snow because we went to the casino in South Carolina, and someone insisted we take the long way around.

I think it is a gamble. Last year during the last week of March my DD went on a school trip to PF and the Smokey Mountains and it was a very nice week with sunshine and pleasant temperatures. I do believe it may have been the first week that Dollywood was open (perhaps only on the weekends though, her trip was over a weekend plus the Friday before).
So it could be nice, and if you are driving you could check the weather and decide then. When we had been there before (which has been a while) there seemed to be a lot of hotels and no problem finding one especially during an off season time like March. Hope it works out. That exact same week last year was wonderful. |

Gamble on weather. It can be beautiful, it can snow, there can be severe storms... March is one of those months that can bring anything around here.
One thing to also look at is when your break is versus those of local schools. Depending on how things line up, you might see a bit of a crowd increase especially on the weekends, though it won't be as bad as summer. My university is out March 11-15. I don't know about other local schools. |
