AAA Fireworks @ MK viewing????
I have the voucher from AAA for the special viewing area.
Is it worth signing up for this? I have read alot of other suggested areas and wondered if it was any more magical?

We did it once. If you got the voucher for it, I am assuming you are travelling soon? The fireworks viewing area can be booked up to 6 months in advance (like ADRs) and space fills up quick. I doubt there would be any availability when you are traveling, but it doesn't hurt to check.
The space is on the landing in front of the Plaza, adjacent to the dessert party area. It's standing room only and you have to present your voucher and photo ID to the CM at the entrance of the area, and he or she will cross-check it with the list of reservations for that night. There are a few of the Plaza's tables and chairs available, but they fill up fast and some of them have obstructed views. It was nice to not have to stake out a spot an hour ahead of time - we walked in 10 minutes before Wishes started. But trying to get out was a nightmare since you're at the hub/main street and the only way out is to merge with the herd. If space was available when you want to go then I say do it, but I wouldn't be bummed or go out of my way if I couldn't get it. |

For our vacation a few weeks ago, we had called and tried to get the fireworks reservation, but it was booked up for any of our dates. Not a big deal. We ended up being very thankful that we didn't have them because our dinner took longer than expected and we raced out just in time to find a quick spot a few minutes beforehand that was perfect, but if we had been trying to race to a specific place that could have been challenging.

Thanks!
We may not get a spot, but I will call to see. At least you gave me other prime viewing areas.

We were there over the MLK weekend and the park was packed but the AAA viewing area was not - was actually wide open.
It was nice to be able to get a great view and have a table and chairs to sit on. Well worth trying to get a reservation, IMHO. The only down side is that its right by a designated smoking area and you can tell. Don't remember having to show ID, though. Hand them our voucher and gave them our names and they checked it against their list..... |

We used the area in September 2011 and had to show idea, but it's possible that policy has changed. It was right after they opened the viewing area.

Did you have to book your trip reservations through AAA to get the seating or just have a AA card and call a special number?

We did it last year and it was an awesome spot and not crowded at all. If you have the opp I would STRONGLY recommend it, you wont have an easier unobstructed view than this.....

Thanks Robo...love that map (all of them, actually)!
For our recent trip, we had tired LO and ended up leaving before the fireworks...only to have a wonderful view from the TT dock area. They pipe in the music and sometimes dim the lights. Very pretty to watch the lights dance across the lake. We weren't going to stay...until we talked to a man set up with a tripod who does work for WDW. He suggested we stay...and I am glad we did. I'm sooo not a fan of being herded like cattle at park close! |
