WDW for a DL veteran? Looking for a nice big thread!

I must suck at searching, 'cause I couldn't find a superthread.

Over in the DL boards, we have threads for DL for WDW experts. I would love the reverse, as I've only been to WDW once and that was 20 years ago long before kids.

I just want to get an idea of what we'd be looking at to do WDW well and if it would work for our family, who loves DL.

thanks!

Where to start?

How long do you have? IMHO, you need at least 5 days for the parks, as we consider Epcot a two-day park.

Are you interested in water parks or other activities as well?

What level of resort do you want? Or will you be staying off-site?

W.E.D., that's why I need a super thread. I do know you need at least 5-7 days to do WDW right, but other than that, it's all new to me.

I'm not really sure on the resort differences. We'd stay on site for sure, since I've heard everything is more spread out there. At DL, our offsite favourite is closer to the parks than any Disney hotel.

As a DL vet, it took me awhile to quit comparing the two. I love both, but for different reasons.
WDW is more of a resort destination. I would plan at least a week for the first time. Everything is so spread out, that it takes longer to tour the parks. The hotels are themed, which enhances the experience. Dining is a much bigger deal at WDW than DL. You'll want to make reservations ahead of time.

When I go to DL, it's all about the rides. At WDW, it's a complete vacation.

That's the thread I wanted! I should have guessed it was a Hydroguy thread...

It seems like WDW is a totally different type of experience than DL resort...we might love it or not. We're in the Pacific Northwest so WDW is a much longer, more expensive flight than DL and certainly not a drive we could do without taking several weeks.

thanks for the input!

I think you are going to love it!

We are WDW vets who went to DL last spring and fell in love! DL is a little jewel box, and WDW shows you what happens when Disney has real room to work with! I'm sure DL will always have the special place in your heart, but there is SO much to see and do at WDW and it really is a lot of fun to compare various key attractions to see how they differ at each park.

If you love Blue Bayou, be sure to eat at San Angel Inn at Epcot.

If you love Napa Rose, be sure to try California Grill.

Enjoy!!

like pp's have said - it's a different experience - but still magical - i think that wdw is more magical because you don't get as much outside interference - and people are there more for longer trips - so they immerse themselves into the experience -

but don't compare - enjoy

i know that you're coming from the NW - and you may want to do all that orlando has to offer - but if you do that - you may miss out on some things in dw - we could go for two / three weeks and still not do everything - for us - epcot is now a three day event - mk is two - and ak & hs are one day'er's but could be more

and if you stay onsite you have the extras that we like: boat ride from port
orleans to downtown disney - electrical water parade on bay lake -

it just makes you want to go back for more
