Cell service in San Juan - AT&T
My daughter (who is attached to her cell phone 24/7) seems convinced that she will be able to use her cell phone in San Juan. She has an iPhone and we use AT&T. Can anyone verify that this is correct? I don't want to get hit with a major bill at the end. She would probably not call anyone - pretty much just texting.

AT&T customers are covered under their domestic plan in San Juan and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

We were there in November. iPhone and Internet worked perfectly! No additional charges on bill. It's the same inn St Thomas.

She is right, as well as St Thomas as the poster above said, since they are in the US Virgin Islands. We used it on our iPhones during November on our cruise - AT&T service was great, internet was fast, and no charge. Of course if you want to tell her otherwise to keep her from being preoccupied, I won't tell!

I called AT&T today myself to confirm this. I don't want to be surprised by my bill. Lol. He did confirm that San Juan is covered. Although he couldn't tell me for sure about St. Thomas. Glad to see others that have used their phones in both places with no charges!! Thanks for the helpful info!!

Thank you all for the helpful info. DD will be very excited to hear that she doesn't need to be "disconnected" from the world for the entire week.

People should check their plans, however, as all carriers or even different plans from the same carrier may not be the same. I can confirm that with most AT&T iPhone plans, PR and the USVI are considered the same as calling from home. We have used AT&T phones in PR, St. Thomas and St. Croix without incurring charges. I have a Verizon phone, however, and while PR is part of the home plan, the USVI is considered international roaming territory.

We cruised over NYE. We have AT&T I phones and did the following. Kept the phone on airplane mode. After docking we powered our phone completely off then turned back on to make sure we were using a AT&T signal. That's what was suggested to us by AT&T. In St Thomas and San Juan. It was great! No extra charges. Your time on the phone will be their local time so make sure it's same as ship time.
