Late people. I hate it!!!
My pet peeve is people who are habitually late and don't think it's a big deal. Rude, rude, rude!!! Don't call me while I'm sitting at the restaurant, on time, and tell me you're on your way-20 minutes away, which means you haven't even left your house yet.
Don't call me and say you're in a meeting for an hour when I'm expecting you in 10 minutes. I know stuff happens. I know it happens more than once. If you put me in a place where I am left wasting my time waiting for you...I'm not happy-I am busy too. I'm just not rude, disorganized, thoughtless or arrogant about our friendship or relationship. From now on, you go to voice mail. I MAY get back to you in a few days. From now on, you call me when you get to our appointed meeting place and then I'll leave my house. I'll get more bills paid, laundry done, books read, long baths taken, children sorted out, vacations planned. You waste my time no more!! Vent over.

I don't leave my house or whatever until I know that the "habitually late person" is on their way. If I don't get a hold of them, I don't go and wait anymore...just saying.

I totally agree with you. I hate being late. I'd rather be 20 minutes early than one minute late. I have a job interview on Tuesday at 11:00 am and I plan on being there at least 15minutes early.

I have a couple of friends and relatives who are ALWAYS late for things.
I've gotten in the habit of telling them to arrive 15 minutes before I actually need them there. They're still usually late, but at least not by as much... |

This seems to be a "normal" thing now a day. I also get annoyed by it, but it is what it is. You can't change it.

Know what I hate even more? When we are expected to WAIT for the late people before doing whatever it was we were supposed to be doing.
For example, dinner can't start until X is here. How about we start eating when we said we would and when X arrives, they can make their own plate if there is anything let over! |

me too. it is rude!
i had a friend in college who was (never failed) 30-45 minutes late to EVERYTHING, finally we told her that a party was an hour earlier so she'd show up on time. pathetic. no idea if she's making it in the real world or not! |

I have a sister who is always late, but we're not allowed to say anything to her because she gets so defensive. She actually thinks it's rude for anyone to say anything.
![]() I've known other perpetually late people who think the same way. I've also heard it's a control mechanism. That people who are always late are making others wait for them, thereby controlling them. I agree. My sister is labelled as an "overachiever" when in reality she's an OCD, controlling personality who thinks she can do it better herself so she takes over most situations and events. I gave up years ago saying anything to her because she isn't very nice about it. I am ALWAYS on time, and usually a bit early. I don't like to keep anyone waiting. |

For habitually late people, I always give them a time that is 30 minute earlier than expected. If they get there at that time then they will get a taste of their own medicine otherwise I don't have to wait so long for them!

Like I said, I'm not taking her calls or going someplace until she calls and says she's there. I've moved her from a good friend to a casual, if I have time, friend. Pretty much that's where she has me anyway. I'm no longer mad, just over it completely. Btw, I left the restaurant today before she arrived. She hasn't called me yet so I assume she understands. I took my food home and built a fire, got my kindle and sat down for a snak and a good read with my phone off.
My husband is now over an hour late. He's never late and he's finishing a job this week so I know what's going on. Dangerous day to be late around here though, lol! Glad I have my sense of humor back.

Now i can see by unexpected issues: heavy traffic. But more then 10 minutes i start without you. My time is valued to me so i dont allow people to waste it. My exh us always late and his fiancée is the same way. So i will not sit and wait to them at an in between point to get or drop o ff dd. They call me when they get to a certain place then i head for the final place.
Oddly enough: when he has to wait or wants something, people are supposed ti jump lol |

My sister & my oldest dd are latecomers also. I tell them they should be mother and daughter, they are so alike, lol. We've gotten used to it & if it is an event that time matters we just tell them it is earlier. Works most of the time.
Sadly one of my co workers just got suspended at work today because she was late. She has always been late for years but now we have some new bosses & they are not gonna put up with it. She has been warned so many times. |
