The only meal I'm struggling with...
is lunch at HS. We do not care for 50's PT. I don't care if it's QS or CS. Just a good meal for me, DH, and DD 5. Air-conditioned with be a major bonus. I know the restaurants at HS are not the most favorite....where should we eat?

IMO, The Sci Fi Diner is great. While the food may not be the best, the atmosphere is great, service is awesome and because it's like a drive in theater and they show clips from old movies, it's the quietest restaurant in WDW! It was my DS favorite from the time he was 5 until now 18!

The best place is Hollywood Brown Derby.

Best food by a long way is Hollywood Brown Derby. It's one of my favorite restaurants at WDW and certainly my favorite inside a park.
Best atmosphere is Sci Fi. However, I think the food is worse than at 50s. |

My wife usually sets up the kids with the standard burger or chicken at a table outside the B&B theatre while i run to Brown Derby and grab the amazing Cobb salad for 2 to go. Perfect for lunch!

We really like Mama Melrose. But that might be too heavy for lunch....we usually save that for dinner.
As of late we've s stuck to ABC Commissary (I really like their burger topped with a couple fried shrimp) and Starring Rolls (great sandwiches and of course CUPCAKES for dessert)!!!! |

i don't really get the knocks on Sci-Fi. Having dined at 50's several trips we decided to try Sci-Fi and our food was good. It was hot the day we were there and really appreciated the air conditioning! I had a turkey sandwich with the cucumber salad and ice tea, the sandwich was huge. All was very fresh and tasty. I think DH had a burger and fries which was fine.
Don't go there looking for gourmet dining, stick to sandwiches and burgers and I think you will do fine. I think the atmosphere is pretty neat! We found it much more relaxing than the 50's atmosphere. |

We enjoy Sci Fi, love the atmosphere, very low lighting, quieter because you are watching the big screen. The burgers, fries, shakes, desserts, and app's are very good in my OP. Never been to 50's or MM neither appeal to us.

We loved Hollywood and Vine despite not having the greatest reviews and my kids loved the Disney Junior characters and the staff was wonderful. Lots of options for kids and adults. Would eat there again for sure.

In my opinion, Hollywood Studios have the worst food options. We eat at the ABC Commissary when we are there. We have been to Mama Melrose's and Prime Time Diner, to me they are not worth the money.

I actually think the CS options in HS are fairly good.
Backlot Express beside Star Tours and ABC Commissionary usually have seatting available, and both are out of the sun. Backlot Express also has refillable drinks IIRC. |

To the OP, for food, I would vote for HBD. It's got a lot of good choices. However, it is a Signature (so 2 credits on the DDP) and kind of pricey. For less expensive food, I do like Sci Fi. The food is pretty good and watching the old, bad sci-fi clips are fun.

I like Sci-fi also. I ate there on my first trip and really enjoyed the atmosphere. Our server was wonderful and both our meals were good. I had the Reuben and DBF had the Burger. Like a PP said, don't expect gourmet, but its a nice place to escape the heat.
