I don't know how long you've been on these boards, but in October 2011, my ds actually had an appendectomy in Mexico. We had to leave the Wonder for the surgery. It was absolutely terrifying. But, Disney and their recommended medical facility was AMAZING!!! Thank GOD for trip insurance. They paid out over $48,000 for us!!! (Surgery, hotel while we stayed there, last minute airline tickets back home, etc.)
Did you have trip insurance through disney?

First of all, I am so happy that not only is your daughter okay, but that you were able to rejoin your family onboard and continue to CC. I couldn't imagine how you felt, and I am very happy that it all worked out in the end!!

I just wanted to add to my fellow cruisers to please check with your insurance company before you leave the country. I had read one of the many cruise horror stories about someone getting airlifted off of a ship (not Disney) and the bill JUST for the airlifting was $25,000. I called my health insurance (BCBS) right after I read this story and asked them if there was any kind of travel insurance I could add on for our cruises. I was surprised when they told me I was already covered under Blue Card, a program that covers us in 200 countries. The nice customer service rep asked if I'd like to hear about the hospitals in Nassau (I laughed, I told him it wasn't in the plan to have to visit the hospital LOL), but it was enormous peace of mind to have coverage internationally. So if you have health insurance, it may be worth calling and seeing if you are covered internationally!

A similar thing happened to my sister and brother in law last month. They were on the Fantasy when he had a heart attack. The ship took them to Cozumel where he had surgery and spent a couple more days in the hospital there before an air med flight took them back to the states where he had another surgery and is now home recovering. Thank goodness they had passports!
Oh my! I was on that cruise, and was so worried for him and his family! I am so happy to hear that he got the medical care he needed, and is recovering!!
