How does GAC work - 2 couples, one person in wheelchair

We're seasoned WDW'ers (and DIS-er on other boards), but will be doing a park for the first time with a friend who is in a power chair due to MS. (she has some ability to transfer out of her chair, so what she can or can't do isn't the question for this thread).

The question is, how does this work with the GAC since we'd like to be able to do things together. Are all 4 of us able to go together to the same entrances, or do we have to separate from them? We're not looking for opportunities to do things faster even though DH and I are "able" (and we know in some instances we may actually be waiting longer ) - we just want to be able to enjoy things together as much as possible.

May not get an answer in time - this is spur of the moment (we didn't realize she wanted to do a park during their short visit) and we're doing this tomorrow - 2/5!)

Thanks for the feedback - these forums are the best!!!!

Your friend will not need a GAC unless there is also a hidden need. But to answer your question the GAC is for up to 6 people so your group would be together. Most lines are mainstream so the power chair would go in the regular line anyway, but for the few that are not you should all be able to board together.

If you have not checked out the disABILITIES FAQs thread, you may want o check it out. You can find it near the top of this board or follow the link in my signature.

As was already mentioned by the previous poster, a GAC (Guest Assistance Card) is not needed to bring a wheelchair into lines or attractions. it may be helpful for someone with other needs besides the wheelchair. You can find out more information in post 6 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread.

Post 11 of that thread has information about access and which rides require a transfer. As was already mentioned, most attractions are wheelchair accessible thru the regular 'mainstream' line.

Sue, thanks so much for additional info. Oops - I had actually gone to the FAQ thread first, but in my haste I missed your extremely helpful index in the first post and just started scrolling. Got overwhelmed and just posted my questions.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

That's OK - sometimes I have to go to the index myself to figure out where things are.
