Delectable Dining

We left the Magic Kingdom gates behind and headed down to the launch.

Soon we were cruising across the Seven Seas Lagoon. I just love the launch. There are so many worlds within Walt Disney World - the world of the parks, the world of the resorts. And then even transportation is its own (usually!) magical world. The launch especially seems to catch you up and take you to a happy place - out on the water, the gaily striped awning fluttering above, the cheerful whistle, a beautiful sight behind and a beutiful sight before you. I love it!

As soon as the boat docked, we hurried up to the Royal Palm Club. We had only barely made it back in time for tea!

PHEW! The tea goodies were still out once we reached the lounge, although they started taking them away just about five minutes later - a close call!

I just really, really want a jam tart right now. I've never actually tried to make jam tarts, but now I'm feeling inspired. I need to look up a recipe soon I think.

Or some devonshire cream would be great. I saw devonshire cream at Fresh Market the other day, and it required all my willpower not to buy it!

Ahhhhhhhhhhh....tea. And that mango juice - delish!

It was just as well we had come back towards the end of tea, because then we didn't have too long to wait until dinner! Contrary to how this trip report may sound, our trips to Disney aren't completely about food...only mostly...

I spent the interval strolling around the Grand. Don't you love the oversized fronds surrounding the fountain? They seem especially at home because they're pink.

Paintings are another one of those little Disney details I find myself constantly walking by, so I tried to consciously notice more of them around the Grand!

The lounge!

A lovely occupation to while away an hour or so was just hanging over the balcony and watching everyone come and go on all the floors below. There was a big group all wearing bright pink shirts - we used a camera to zoom in and saw they were a bridal party, probably there for a rehearsel at the Wedding pavilion!

It was fun watching the CM's at the front desk (I know what that's like!), and seeing them escort families pulling their big suitcases across the lobby. You can always tell when a party is new to the Grand, because they're just staring up in awe, with their suitcase knocking into everything.

Even just watching guests coming out of their rooms on the upper floors was fun, guessing where they were heading for dinner! There was a mom (a fellow club guest) with a little baby princess in the stroller, and she was pushing the stroller around and around and around the atrium balcony, trying to get the baby to go to sleep!

Mmmmmm...I wonder what's on the menu at the Royal Palm Club tonight?

Exotic cheeses on the left (one was HAVARTI, one of the creamiest, loveliest cheese EVER), tofu+vegetable spring rolls on the right.

This was an asian chicken slaw. Very tangy and tasty. One of the most fun parts about staying club is getting to try all sorts of new dishes!

Black bean hummus on a pita chip topped with roasted red peppers. SO GOOD.

The hot "pickety bits" (as they called them on Downton Abbey...although Downton Abbey and I are a bit on the outs right now, because I can't believe Julian Fellowes killed off Sybil. ). One of the selections was chicken wellington. Athos seemed to inhale them...they were pretty delectable.

These little veggie tarts tasted like they had descended straight from heaven. They melted in your mouth with just a little bit of crunch and a little bit of sweetness and overall amazingness. Oh man, I can taste it now...

More soon!

I'm feeling hungry now too and its 7am Those food choices really are amazing. Is it just me or does the GF have the best club level food choices.

How fun to people watch all the activity in the lobby! And the outside grounds are just stunning!

:O Are you only at the bit where they've killed off Sybil? Man you're behind! We're on a break while they make the new series at the moment, it needs to start soon though because I'm getting withdrawal symptoms!

Seriously, too much love for the club level food, it looks so so good! Mmmm.

Haha I was one of those people when we went to explore the GF, we came in on the monorail level and I was just blown away, I love it

I honestly can't think of anything to say besides this: I NEED TO STAY AT THE GRAND FLORIDIAN IMMEDIATELY. You describe it so amazingly, I just want to stay there right away!

Oh and by the way, your video was too cute!

Cute video, I'm sure you had fun putting it together. Your brothers are great sports!

My dinner tonight was very boring, as I'm gearing up for Superbowl feasting tomorrow. So seeing all those great looking foods at the club lounge is a little depressing. Hmmmm I need to find a good snack.

Everytime I read one of your reports I get so so hungry, I'm sitting here eating a chicken and salad sandwich and suddenly it becomes the worst thing ever because I can see all your disney food!! Next time you stay club level... take me?! Haha

Seriously though, I never knew they put so much food out for you to choose from, I am very impressed!! I also have a whole new level of appreciation for the Contemporary and the Grand, so beautiful and the views are amazing!

Now hurry up and write more so I can waste more (/productively use my time) of my work day!
Glad you're all caught up! lol, you can hide in my suitcase. Or maybe we should just plan a DIS girls trip! Speaking of meet-up's, my brother Porthos is studying abroad in London this semester, and I'm hoping to visit him in England sometime in March. I'd love to try to see you!!

The GF definitely has the best club level food choices - we were totally blown away!

I know! You guys got to see season 3 in Sept., but it only started in Jan. for us. I had read spoilers so I knew about Sybil, but it's still so sad. She was my favorite character - I feel like the series won't be quite the same without her!

lol, you definitely do! It was so wonderful - definitely beyond our expectations (which were already pretty high because, I mean, it's Disney! ). And thanks!

It was really fun putting all the scenes together - and the brothers sometimes had to be coaxed into it, but they were great sports in the end. Hope you enjoyed your superbowl feasting! I know how you feel -- I'm trying to be good and eat healthy, but looking over all these club food photos isn't helping!

Delectable Desserts

As on the previous evening, we really enjoyed the band!

After dinner Mom and Dad were taking a stroll to digest, and the guys in the band saw them and waved - they remembered Dad! We had thought of a few more songs to request, and tonight they played Sing, Sing, Sing (a song the Notre Dame Marching Band played while I was in it...I was fingering along on an imaginary trumpet for parts of it ) and Pennsylvania 6,500.

One of us would go down to request the song, then dash back up to the Royal Palm level to watch and dance along. During Pennsylvania 6,500 we shouted "Pennsylvania-Six-Five-Thousand!" right on cue.

I think the Grand Floridian Orchestra inspired us to listen to more big band music, because now we're addicted to the 40's on 4 channel on Sirius. And we're storing up ideas to request the next time we go to the Grand!

Once again there were lots of couples dancing along in the lobby below. These people WERE doing some pretty awesome swing dancing but sadly stopped as soon as I got out my camera. I really think the Grand Floridian should hire a musical director to pick the songs every night, and obviously we've proved that we’d be great at that.

The Grand was looking lovely that evening...I was not ready to leave yet! Luckily we still had desserts to eat, so we had an excuse to stay just a little longer...

There were be-a-u-tiful chocolate-covered strawberries.

Some colorful fruit tarts.

Also more cream puffs.

Also more chocolate eclairs (on the top tier) and orange tarts. I think you can also spot the cupcakes and rice crispie treats photobombing in the background.

The only sweet-like substance in my house right now is chocolate chips, and here I am drooling over all these old dessert photos. Not good. But the trip report must go on!

Mmmmmm...this was a little mocha torte. Delish.

I think they had had this on the previous evening...it was like a linzer tart.

OHhhhhhhhhhhhhhh BLISS! And yes I had my milk in a port glass just to feel fancy.

I ate verrry very slowly, so as to enjoy the desserts to the maximum extent - and also so that my stomach would have enough room. lol!

Occasionally I go for a lap around the atrium as a refresher. As in the room earlier in the day, I felt compelled to take endless photos since we'd be leaving soon...

I climbed the little club staircase to visit the Grand Ponciana level and my favorite little table and chairs one last time.

SNIFF...don't make me leave!

Another favorite corner...when I like things, I just take lots and lots of pictures of them. I don't know why.

The castle was gleaming across the Seven Seas Lagoon!

ctd...next post...

Au Revoir to the Grand

Back down the stairs…they connected the third, fourth, and fifth floors, which, as I think I mentioned, were called the Ponce de Leon, the Royal Palm, and the Grand Ponciana levels (in that order). Because at a place as grand as the Grand Floridian you can't possibly call floors by something as mundane as numbers. The fifth had my table, the fourth the lounge, and the third the check-in desks. I couldn’t remember if I had taken photos of the third floor, so I went down to take a few just in case…

Because it’s REALLY important that you guys see these cute little chairs. I take my trip reporting duties very seriously.

These chairs, also super important to document their presence. Honestly, if someone were to look through my Disney photo folders, half of the pictures would be of chairs and couches and the other half of food. People would think I’m crazy!

Luckily I know you guys won’t…because you also really wanted to see how pink and plump the couch next to the check-in area looks, right?

The concierge/check-in desks themselves, with CM’s still hard at work. They’re there from 7AM to 10PM.

Listening to one last song from the band.

Having one last chocolate éclair… (What I would give for one of these beauties right now!)

To drag it out as long as possible, we decided to quickly run over to the lounge in Sugarloaf and see if the dessert selection was the same, which it was. In fact, all the food offerings were exactly the same in the Main Building and Sugarloaf, and your key got you into both.

I love how Disney just glows in the dark.

We lingered in the lobby while the bell hops got our suitcases.

My shutterbug instincts die hard, and I was snapping photos until the bitter end.

Love this little display advertising the Grand Floridian Villas. I wonder if it’s still up? It’s really sweet! If you look closely, you can find a hidden person from a Monet painting!

Sometimes self-photos are just the best.

Alright, alright, I’ll be done with the Grand. It’s amazing that it was just a one-night stay; it felt longer because we got so much enjoyment out of it!

We ended up driving home (unintentionally) just as Wishes was going off. Our drive back to Aramis’s apartment (which is where we were staying that night) took us behind the Magic Kingdom, so the fireworks were going off literally right above us. The perfect send-off from a perfectly GRAND stay…and the trip wasn’t even over yet!

That Grand Floridian Orchestra is the best! I think a CD of their performances is sold in the resort gift shop.

Smile Janny

Dear Emma,
Just wanted to say thank you for that beautiful trip to the Grand Floridian. You have such literary & vocal talent!! You should thank your parents also for raising such nice looking, fun loving, great kids. You all beam with excitement and it is very contagious!! You have helped us plan our Disney trip so much through your TR's and website. We had such a magical time at the poly last year, that we are returning again this May!!! You put our minds at ease that it would be possible to get around with our youngest daughter in her wheelchair, and it was!! 35% PIN incentive made our trip possible this calendar year instead of waiting until next! Keep up the great work on your blogs and know that you have many grateful fans out here on the disBoards!!
God Bless!
