How Does Disney Do It?

Just got off the 1/31 Disney Dream (our first on one of the new ships) and had a great time. It was just DW wife and I celebrating our 19th wedding anniversary.

I really want to see my profile in the Disney customer database to know what all Disney really knows about me. I'm not sure if this should be classified as creepy or as magical but here goes.

We were seated with 3 other couples for MDR for a total of 4 couples; 2 of the couples had children the same age as our children but we were all sailing without children this time; the other couple had no children. We all graduated from High School within 3 years of each other. Three of us couples had sailed on DCL 4+ times; one this was their first DCL cruise. Two couples were members of DVC. Three of the couples had WDW annual passes. The 4 men at the table were all Disney Geeks; not just DCL but everything Disney and we all frequent the regular Disney boards. We all had things in common and got together well. I actually wished the cruise had been longer so we could have hung out together more.

It was very cool but very strange that Disney knows so much about each of us that they were able to put us together at a table nearly ensuring that we would enjoy the company of our tablemates.

I just think that DCL put 4 sets of Adults cruising without children together within a certain age group. A couple cruising DCL without children have a higher probability of being "Disney" people than those with children. So, I think it was just a perfect storm.

Most of it is "basic" information they collected from you. If you've cruised before with your children, they'd have that in the data base as well as their ages. Since they get all of our birthates, they have all of our ages, so that's easy. You show up in Disney's data base as a vacation club member. And the rest is pixie dust, but like pp said, good chance that adults on a Disney cruise without children are bid Disney fans.

We have been pretty amazed at our table pairings in the past as well. On one cruise we had my parents along and they placed us at a table where the mother was a teacher (and so is my mom) and the father worked at the same company as my dad. Seemed too good to be true that we had so much in common to talk about.

On our first cruise DH and the wife of the other family worked in the same (unusual) industry in directly competing companies. It was funny to watch them 'talk shop' then suddenly clam up when they got to info they weren't allowed to share with the competition. On our second cruise, the grandmother of the family and I were both breast cancer survivors. DD and the other child had almost identical learning disabilities.

There is no way Disney could have known all of that. I chalk it up to sheer luck and maybe a little pixie dust.

We are still close friends with the first family.
