Upgrading at port check in?
I've been reading where people have upgraded their cabin when checking in. We are cruising in a category 5C, deluxe balcony cabin. What are the chances of upgrading? What could we upgrade to? How much could it potentially cost?

It depends on what, if anything, they have available in categories above yours. It could cost hundreds or thousands depending on how high the new category is.

The "chances" depend on how full your cruise is in the categories that are nicer than you already have. We've seen the Walt suite available for a port upgrade (we were told that the family that had it booked had cancelled the day before due to a medical situation). We've commonly seen one bedroom suites available for upgrade.
Cost depends on length of cruise and what you are going from and to. The supervisor will have a chart at her station--she will tell you what is available and what it will cost. |

I prefer deck 7 to higher decks so a 4B or 4A would be less desirable than the 4C.
Above Cat 4 you get into Concierge cabins with more limited availability-an upgrade to Concierge would be pricey but IMO way more valuable than an upgrade to a more expensive non-concierge cabin. Last edited by Funky Chicken; 02-03-2013 at 06:24 PM. |
