Wait....confused a little. What is the effective date of this? Just booked onboard on Wed. Is mine subject to the 30 days to transfer?

Yes, there is no grandfathering. Effective 2/1/13

I agree that it may seem unfair to change a policy, especially to those who were planning on getting an OBC from a TA (imagine how the TAs who may have lost some business feel). But that doesn't make it illegal or allow that those who now cannot transfer to a TA have a cause of action against the business. Businesses change the terms of offers all the time. Commercial carriers even have more power to do this, such as an airline doesn't allow you to just sell your ticket to someone else, or if they raise the charge for baggage or soda on a flight, you have to accept that change.

If it is a material change, you would probably be allowed to cancel the entire contract (which you could do here are this new policy would only affect those cruises not paid in full). Also the on board credit is only a fraction of the cost of the cruise, so it is unlikely anyone would consider it material to the contract.

At the same time, the TA can change it's offer at any time. If you were planning on transferring the reservation to ABC agency for $500 in credit, andABC decided before you changed it lower that offer to $50, there isn't anything you could do about it. You'd have no claim against ABC.

Just a difference between unfair (which you might think it is) and illegal or actionable, which a change in policy is not. Don't like the new policy? Don't do business with Disney anymore.

Ok, well the person who made the quote obviously was grandfathered in, so it seems the post was right.

I called Disney myself and yes, anyone who made a reservation prior to the change would be allowed to transfer to an agent without penalty. AND I got my answer for DVC members too. I put that up on the owners board, to preclude these type of pointless disagreements occurring here.

Not all reservation agents are aware of the new policy. Those working at a higher pay grade have stated there is no grandfathering of those holding existing reservations.

Anyone claiming to have transferred a reservation made prior to 2/1/13 will have to have filled out a certain form and emailed or faxed it to DCL at a certain phone number or address. The transfer can take up to four weeks. A request may have been made but that does not mean it happened today even under the best of circumstances.

haven't read the whole thread so if this has been asked and answered, sorry.
so lets say I book with a ta today and put a deposit down. I want to cruise oct 2014. the ta takes the deposit and makes the reservation, i'm guaranteed a price.
so then I sail oct 2013 and want to rebook for obc. now if the price is much the same and I want to book this could I not then tell them to tf it to abc ta and then call abc ta when I get home and cancel the first one?
just wondering if this is an option. it would solve problems for a few people, not sure what the ta's would think.

Disney is pretty well paid!! This is all quite comical being the number of posts by mostly everyone else on this topic and a newbie with all but 2 posts on this thread. troll?

This would be considered reshopping, or at least it has in the past. Just have your TA's information with you and the reservation number and the OBB agent will be able to take care of it.

thanks for the information, i'm still trying to get my head around this.
I thought if it was booked with a ta then you couldn't reshop it on board, that the ta had to release it. what your suggesting is sooooo much easier.
