What's changed since 2010?

We will be cruising this April on the Dream and have a couple of questions. My boys are each 52" tall so I know that they cannot ride the Aquaduck as single riders. Will they be able to ride together on a double tube or will I have to ride with each of them? I was hoping to be able to chill poolside while they ride....Next question, when we cruised on the Wonder a few years ago we brought our own brand new small inner tubes that we took to Castaway Cay. We blew them up on the beach and no one said a word. Website now says no floats are permitted on board. Is this really enforced on CC? My boys prefer the small tubes to the ones Disney rents there. Last question, Website says no coolers of any kind can be brought on board unless they are for medicine. I have a canvas type small cooler that looks like a beach bag but it's lined so that it won't leak. Do you think I'd be able to board with it (without ice in it)? Last time, soft sided coolers were allowed.....Answers from those who have recently cruised would be appreciated! Thanks in advance. We are sooooo excited to be on the DREAM.

Actually, personal coolers have always been on the prohibited list. DCL just didn't enforce it. They started enforcing it last October. The reasons put out were: damage to carpeting/furniture in staterooms due to condensation/leaking of said coolers, and people bringing the coolers to the pool deck/CC beach and too much partying going on.

As to whether you want to bring and try to use your personal float (in spite of them being on the prohibited list), it's your call. They may or may not enforce it.

I think that, if your boys ride together, it would be allowed. But, I don't know for sure.

Another change since 2010 might be the online checkin/port checkin process. You select a Port Arrival Time now. Arriving earlier than you selected PAT, may not get you onboard any earlier.

The notation about no flotation devices being allowed on CC has always been on the website. We have seen them each cruise since 2003.

Unless things have changed recently, your kids should be able to ride together provided they meet the age requirements.

The rules about no coolers and no floatation devices have always been there in writing; they are just being more enforced now. if your bag looks like a beach bag, there will be no issue. If it looks like a cooler, you'll be reclaiming it after the cruise.

Let's see--PAT has been discussed. There are new ships (DUH). Reduced benefits for platinum CC members. Reduced OBC for both gold and platinum for onboard booking. Cabanas and expansion of Castaway Cay. What else?

So now I'm a little confused about the coolers. We plan to bring a 12 pk. of beer on board with us and were going to use a wheeled soft cooler. No good?
We are first time cruisers, can you tell?

If you attempt to bring a personal cooler of any type, unless it is for medical reasons, it will be confiscated and you will get it back at the end of the cruise.

Is the $200 OBC for anyone sailing 7+ day? Is this from Disney? We are sailing 8 days and received $100 for only excursion credit. I would appreciate any advice!

The OBC is for reservations made onboard (OBB) for a future cruise, not all cruises.

12 pack of beer is fine. Cooler is not. You can place the beer in a wheeled suitcase, but not a soft sided cooler.

You can blame previous cruisers for this enforcement. The rule again has always stated that any alcohol brought on board is for consumption in your stateroom. People were wheeling coolers to the pool deck and becoming...uh....inappropriate. Also, guests were bringing coolers and filling them with ice. In some cases, they leaked onto carpets and/or furniture, leading to need for replacement or repairs.

No one will question you carrying around a glass of any beverage, and they won't know whether it was purchased on the ship or brought on board. However, thumbing one's nose at rules by things like bringing one's stash to the pool deck.....we see the results.
