Help with what sould be our best discount?

I am looking at possibly taking a Disney Cruise in June 2014. I have only cruised once, back in 2004, on The Big Red Boat...before Disney built their own beautiful ships.

At that time I only had one dd(4). We now have 4 kids (oldest just got married this past July). Those cruising would be DH, Me, DS19, DD15, DD6 and then DD24 and her DH24. I know we will need 2 rooms.
We have taken numerous trips to WDW and I know exactly how to get the best deals on rooms, tickets, etc. but I have absolutely no idea on discounts and Disney cruising.

I have seen a kids sail free discount (I guess my younger two would qualify) but I dont know what else is common for the DCL to offer. I want to do this as cheaply as possible (DD and her DH will be paying for their part). I know I would have to put one of our other kids in their room.
We would drive down (from VA) as flights get expensive for the number in our group, and we would need to said out of Port Canevaral.

Im sure that June is also a higher priced time. My problem is my two middle kids. DS will be in college and cant miss. DD15 is not the "A" student that her two older siblings were/are and so I really dont want to pull her out of school like we have done in previous years. She will be in High school then on block scheduling, so missing a week is like missing 2 weeks really.
DD15 and DS19 do not have the same days off schedules since he will be in college. Summer seems like my only time to go...and they will both start back to school by Aug 23-25.
Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

For the most part, the lowest prices on any given cruise will be offered on opening day. As the space fills, the prices rise. On cruises that aren't selling well, DCL will offer specials (KSF, military, FL residents, last-minute restricted rates).

Generally, while these specials will offer lower rates than the current rate that a room is going for, these rates tend to be higher than the opening day rates.

When (or have they already) will they have opening day prices released for June 2014?

Well, the Dream & Fantasy itineraries are already out for 2014. The Wonder & Magic, we don't know for sure. Latest rumor says March for summer 2014.

Thanks for the help. What is the difference in these 4 ships?
Also, if you book and a discount comes out (like kids sail free) can you switch it to that discount like you can when booking a WDW vacation? Thanks...I keep thinking of questions.

The Magic and Wonder are the older ships, and smaller. The Dream and Fantasy are the newest ships, and larger. The Dream & Fantasy have AquaDuck and the interior rooms have the virtual porthole.

On the DCL website you can read up on the differences better than I can describe them.

It's my understanding that some of the special rates can be applied after they come out (like the FL resident rate, and maybe the KSF). The last-minute restricted rates are new bookings only, so those can't be applied. Don't know for sure about the military rate.

Regarding sailings - June is already high season, so small chances of getting something like KSF. Also, since you'll be looking at two staterooms with one of them being a family type to accommodate 5, forget about *GT offers -

These ONLY show up for up to 4 per room - you could move one of the kids to the other room, but *GT rooms do not guarantee you to be close to each other (you can request it) nor even be on the same deck.

KSF has been out for cruises that don't sell well - these have been recently on Miami or Galveston cruises. This would work out GREAT for you - your three kids will be free in your room. KSF assumes the first two people on a stateroom to pay full fare, then any kids up to age 17 to be free (up to 3 of them on the same stateroom).

Concierge do not qualify for KSF nor *GT rates.

Regarding the ships - Dream and Fantasy (bigger and newer) leave from Port Canaveral and are not planned to be moved. Dream does 3 and 4 night cruises to the Bahamas, while the Fantasy does 7 night cruises to Easter or Western Caribbean. All sailings stop at Castaway Cay (DCL's private island).

The classic (older and smaller but as nice) typically move around through the year. Currently, the Magic is stationed in Galveston, TX, and the Wonder in Miami. The Wonder will be moving to the West Coast later this year and do some Alaska cruises. I believe the Magic will be heading over to Europe in the summer. In the beginning of 2014, the Magic will be going to Port Canaveral and the Wonder to Miami. From Miami, the Wonder does both cruises to Bahamas and to the Western Caribbean. The Magic out of PC will be doing cruises to Bahamas.

Hope this helps...

Thanks!
My son will be just turning 19 (June 1, 2014) at the time we would travel...so an adult (and no KSF at that point) , and I was going to put one of the kids in my oldest dd's room with her and DSIL. That would give us the option of 2 regular rooms.
Im missing what the GT stands for. Can you give me that discount without the abberviation...
I saw the KSF from Miami and Galveston, but they are not within our driving range. Does the whole summer(June-mid Aug) count as high season? Im guessing so. Thanks for the help!!

*GT is the shorthand for the last minute restricted fares that DCL may offer. IGT = Interior Guarantee; OGT = Oceanview Guarantee; VGT = Verandah Guarantee. With these fares you are booking a type of room not a specific category.

Here is a historical list of the last minute, pay all at once, no changes, DCL selects cabin, etc. *GT rates.
I doesn't list if they are for veranda, oceanview, or inside though.
As you can see, last summer these rates were available in June.
IIRC they were about 20 - 35% off the going rate moments prior to release, say $1100 pp maybe on average for the first two booked in cabin on 7 nighters.
But as mentioned, these are released within 75 days of sailing, and sellout quickly. You need to be ready and flexible. And ready for the possibility of no *GT offered.
Most folks who report back indicated assigned rooms were close to each other IIRC.

ETA; fwiw here is the results of booking *GT
