Eastern Excursion Advice regarding snorkeling and kids

Hello everyone,

We will be taking our first cruise on the Fantasy in October 2013 and I'm starting to explore the different excursions while in St John/St Thomas and St. Marteen. It will be myself, husband, and 2 daughters (8 and 5). We would love to go on a catamaran but neither of the girls are remotely interested in snorkeling (that may change at a drop of a hat but right now they are both very skiddish of the idea). I keep thinking there must be some excursion out there for people like us. Any feedback?

Thanks!

I don't know if they are skiddish of going out on the boat or not, but on snorkeling excursions I've been on, you don't HAVE to snorkle. Would they be OK with just going along?

Thanks PrincessShmoo,

I think they would enjoy it but I'd hate for them to be stuck on the boat. Are there any where you are close to the beach where you can be in shallower water?

We did a snorkeling excursion on the catamaran in St. Martaan, and the place where we snorkeled was actually off of a beach that you could swim to. If you would be able to get the kids to swim the short distance to the beach, they could play in the sand. I believe it was the "Golden Eagle Catamaran". My dds were 5 & 8 on this excursion, it was their first snorkeling encounter...my oldest was not a fan, so we all swam to the beach.

PS...before we went on the cruise, we bought each of our girls cheap snorkels and masks and went to the local YMCA to practice...so that they would be comfortable with the equipment.
Just a suggestion!
