Diamond Horseshoe?

I was just on the Disney website and noticed that it is listed as seasonal QS restaurant. But, whenever we go (Usually in October) it's always closed.

Does anyone know when or if it's open, and why it's a seasonal restaurant? It looks like a neat place, but it's sad to see that it's closed most of the time.

If anyone has been there when it was open, please share your experience.

It is only open at extremely busy times of the year, when the regular restaurants get "swamped" When it is open, there is no show, it's just used as an overflow place to accomodate more people. So you'll see it open the week between Christmas & New Years, for example, or around the 4th of July...when the parks are absolutely packed to capacity. We go in January, February, March, May, September, October & early November...it's never open at any of those times, either.

When it is open, At lunch, it is a cold sandwiches (premade, like ham & cheese) and chips menu...it's a counter service venue. At dinner, it's a table service place, but it is exactly the same family-style meal that is served at Liberty Tree Tavern...the servers & the food come from Liberty Tree Tavern...(so basically, the turkey dinner & fixings...and the servers are in colonial patriot outfits even though the Diamond Horseshoe is frontier/cowboy saloon decor.)

1) Ah, the Diamond Horseshoe !
2) We loved that place.
. . . cute "Western" floor show with dancing, singing and jokes
. . . audience participation on and off stage
. . . snacks, sandwiches and soft drinks
. . . nicely air conditioned, very nicely air conditioned, on a hot day
3) The labor costs became too much for WDW budget constraints.
. . . dancers, comics, other performers
. . . lighting and stage hands
. . . musicians
. . . waitresses, hostesses, bar tendenders (for soft drinks)
4) They shut it down with little fanfare.
. . . Del Monte stopped its sponsorship, and closed in 2003
. . . become Goofy's Country Dancin' Jamboree, and closed in 2004
5) Now, it is an overflow eatery for LTT, but only in "busy" seasons.
. . . busy seasons are usually Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break
. . . counter service and sandwiches for lunch
. . . family-style all-you-can-eat for dinner (same items as at LTT)
. . . recommended ADR's for either
. . . in most cases, not worth the effort
7) WHAT A PITY to kill off such a nice attraction !!!!

NOTE: The Disneyland version is The Golden Horseshoe. They have counter service,
and the floor show with "Billy Hill and the Hillbillies", bluegrass music and comics. There
is no plan to shut down this show.

NOTE2: I got selected to participate before the show was canceled. I had a silly part,
but when the show was over, the banjo player let me take the instrument and play a
little blue grass. It was a cute little "jam session" with the other musicians.

They also use it for special events during the Halloween and Christmas parties.

But yes, it is very sad to see a lovely building sitting empty and unused so much of the time.

I can't say I like the trend of closing down restaurants while clogging up the already crowded walkways with more food carts.

It is sad to see it shuttered most of the time. I heard that the Disneyland Golden Horseshoe was still going strong, why can't we have something like that at our Diamond Horseshoe?

I wish they would have it open more often. I'd love to see the interior for once instead of trying to look through curtained windows (I did that the first time I saw the place).

I remember going to the show Rusty describes back in the early 80's. It was great fun
