I'm glad you're enjoying the reviews! It's funny about the loudness at RR. The last time we were there, it didn't seem very loud at all, but this time, the volume was really 9/10. We were a couple of tables closer to the band this time, so I guess that makes a difference.

Aladdin read your comment about the mixed grill and laughed. He didn't think it was THAT much meat . OK, so he has a pretty big appetite!

Wednesday, 8/8/12 - Lunch - The Plaza

My receipt shows that snack credits were used for breakfast at Captain Cook's on Wednesday: 1 cinnamon bun (Herc?), 1 cheese danish (Belle?) and 1 yogurt parfait (Aladdin for sure!). As I did on most mornings, I just went for the coffee in my refillable mug. Sorry I didn't take picks of the standard snacks.

We also had some pre-lunch snacks in MK that day! First, from the Churro Wagon in Frontierland:

Mickey Pretzel with fake cheese dip! This was very good and I think we split it kind of evenly. I think technically, we could have been charged 2 credits for this snack, one for the pretzel and one for the cheese, but according to my receipt, we were only charged 1 snack credit for this beauty.

We also somehow found time to stop at Aloha Isle for some Dole Whips:

We chose 2 floats (one swirl, one plain vanilla) and one cup of pineapple/vanilla swirl. Aladdin and I split the swirl float, Herc enjoyed the other float, and Belle generally prefers her Dole Whip without the juice. This snack was perfect, as always!

But I know you want to read about lunch at the Plaza, and I'm going to tell you about it!

First off, I have to say that this place is just adorable! It looks like an old-fashioned soda fountain, and we loved the atmosphere in here. We also had a lovely view of the castle! Our server was Jannette, and she was another fabulous server. This was one of the places we had planned to order 3 meals and split them, and Jannette was so accommodating, she split the food in the kitchen before bringing it out. Service wasn't super-quick, but it was nicely paced and we enjoyed sitting in the cool air, so we didn't mind.

We started with 3 of those delicious pomegranate lemonades you find all over the place:

There aren't many appetizer choices here, I think it's between soup and salad. We ordered one soup, which was a Tomato Bisque, and 2 salads, one with Russian dressing, the other with Ranch:

All were good.

For our main courses, we ordered one Turkey Club:

Very good!

One Vegetable Sandwich:

Delicious with the pesto, but not as many veggies as we expected.

And one Cheese Steak:

This was maybe a little disappointing, a little dry and not as much cheese and toppings as we like...basically, we like our cheese steaks messy, and this was not. The fries were delicious, though!

Portions were HUGE here. Remember, these sandwiches had already been split.

Dessert is really the star of the show at The Plaza, and even though we were stuffed from snacking and appetizers and mains, we ordered our 3!

We chose one Ice Cream Scoop in Chocolate Chip Mint:

We weren't expecting the upside cone and the mickey ears, but this was lovely touch and we all laughed when we saw it. So cute!

One Brownie Sundae:

Again, with the chocolate chip mint (Herc's, Belle's and my favorite ice cream flavor). This was delicious. The brownie was so fudgy and big, it alone could have served as adequate dessert for the 4 of us! But pile on that ice cream and hot fudge and whipped cream, and it's even better!

And one Banana Split:

And a close-up:

Hercules declared the "The best banana split I've ever had!" To tell you the truth...it was his FIRST banana split!

Our bill would have come to $97.18, which includes a $17 tip, which was our actual OOP expense. We used 3 TS credits.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here. Good food, delcious ice cream, great service, all in a beautiful setting. We wouldn't rush back, but wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends seeking a simple TS lunch in MK.

3/5!

Next up...dinner at Narcoossee!

Plaza plus

Also, the layout never made me feel crowded. If it is ever possible at WDW in the summer, I felt like it was a very intimate and relaxing experience. Really felt like we were taking a little break in an oasis.

(I could go for a banana split right about now....)

Yes, I agree with Aladdin about the setting. I'm not sure if the whole place is intimate, but our table certainly felt so. We were all the way to the right of the restaurant (as you walk in) toward the front. It was probably one of the best seats in the house!

Wednesday, 8/8/12 - Dinner - Narcoossee's

What a gorgeous setting! We had a window table at the end of the restaurant closest to the MK. Beautiful! Our service started out great, but really fell off in the middle of this meal, which definitely colored our overall first impression of this restaurant.

Bread:

It was served with UNsalted butter...what?

I ordered at Red Sangria:

I think I had read somewhere that this sangria was spectacular and that's why I ordered it. Well, I thought it was very good but nothing really special, and not as good as the sangria I had had earlier in the week at Via Napoli.

Herc ordered a Raspberry Shake:

This was delicious, but very filling! It might have influenced his ability to enjoy his meal!

Aladdin decided on a beer:

An Orlando Brewing Blond Ale. He really enjoyed it.

Belle chose a ginger ale, her usual beverage of choice, and I didn't take a pic.

Aladdin's Calamari:

This was oh, so good! And definitely the appetizer winner of the night. We really enjoyed the sauce and relish topping (olives, peppers, capers)!

Belle's Cheese Plate:

This was a very good appetizer. It wasn't as great as the cheese plate at Yachtsman, and I think we were all expecting something of that caliber, so this was slightly disappointing. If we hadn't had the cheeses at Yachtsman, we might have been in love with this. Alas, perhaps we missed the jar of goo!

My Mussels:

I'm afraid I'm ruined for mussels for the rest of my life. These were just OK. Simply put, the best mussels in the entire world are only available at Flying Fish. All other mussels cannot measure up and should just be skipped. It's not their fault, I blame FF. I should have ordered another plate of calamari!

Hercules' Romaine Salad:

A fine Caesar Salad. Not a standout, but what he was in the mood for that night.

Now here is where the service really took a turn for the worse...er, unacceptable.

Aladdin and I both ordered the Surf and Turf:

This was a huge amount of food and beautifully presented. The lobster tails were absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. We could cut them with our forks if we wanted to, and they had just the right texture. Perfect! Aladdin's filet was nicely cooked and flavorful...he declared it "very good, but not at the same level as the steak at Yachtsman." He had had a different cut at Yachtsman, though.
..
...My filet cooked to a perfect medium-rare, however, there was such a tough cord of sinew running the the center that I could not even cut it with my steak knife...much less eat it. Half my meal was completely inedible! AND it kind of grossed me out. Typically at a restaurant like this (where the entrees seem to average in the $50 range), one would simply flag down one's server and ask for a new steak. The problem was, our server had disappeared. I don't mean he was busy running around working on other tables, I mean he vanished into thin air. Quite literally. We didn't even see any other servers that we could interrupt to say we needed our server. I mean we were ignored for about 40 minutes. No one stopped by to say "how's everything?" No one refilled our water glasses. Frustratingly, we were relatively close to the kitchen door, but for a very long time, no one even glanced our way. Finally, Aladdin was able to get someone's attention, but by that time, I was full from the lobster and really ready to order dessert and get out of there.

Belle ordered the Vegetarian Entree:

This was beautiful and delicious. This was a Pumpkin Mascarpone Ravioli with mushrooms and black fig pesto. So rich! She LOVED this!

Hercules surprised us all by ordering the Lobster:

It was delicious, and he loved that potato gratin.

As mentioned, there was a VERY long interlude between our entrees and our desserts. Normally, we don't mind this. In fact, we enjoy a leisurely paced meal. We rarely, if ever, complain about service, right? This was ridiculous! Now I don't recall that our server ever reappeared...so I'm thinking that perhaps there was some kind of personal or family emergency that rendered him unable to fulfill his responsibilities that night, so this one time I am excusing him and the restaurant. We contemplated skipping dessert, but one of the reasons we had selected Narcoossee's was the famous Almond Encrusted Cheesecake...so we forced ourselves to stick it out!

Aladdin opted for the Creme Brulee:

I don't recall the exact flavor that it was that night, but it must have been something very tropical for Aladdin to have chosen this. He is not a huge Creme Brulee fan, but he does love coconut, key lime and/or mango things. Antway, this certainly didn't knock anyone's socks off.

Belle ordered the famous Almond Cheesecake:

This was truly just a great as everyone says it is, and I can honestly say that it easily lives up to all the hype. If you dine at Narcoossee's, order this thing! I am not even an almond fan, but I loved it!

Hercules ordered the Baked Chocolate Mousse:

I am not a mousse fan, and I never would have considered ordering this, but when I tasted this, I was seriously and mighty pleasantly surprised. The baking of the mousse gives it much more of a soufflee kind of taste and texture, and this was absolutely rich and delicious! Another great choice, especially if you're the type who thinks all good desserts come in the chocolate variety.

I went with the Pecan Tart:

Now normally I am a big pecan pie fan, so I thought that I would love this, but sadly, this dessert also seriously surprised me...but NOT pleasantly. I thought both the almond cheesecake and the baked chocolate mousse (both things I normally dislike) skated rings around the pecan tart (the thing I normally like). Kind of upside down.

This meal "cost" 8 TS credits and our OOP expense was $88.71, $73 for the tip (which kind of makes me cringe because the service was so bad) and $15.71 for the alcoholic drinks and the tax on them.

We really wanted to love this place more! The setting is truly awesome, and some of the food was absolutely magnificent (calamari, lobster, ravioli, cheesecake). But our service was just awful this night (though we excuse it as probable extenuating circumstances, it probably colored our opinion of the place), and some of the food was really underwhelming (mussels, half the desserts) and even inedible (one out of 2 filets). We would go back and give it another chance, but only if we were staying at GF and only if we were on the DxDP (we don't forsee this combination of events happening in the very near furture). I'd be tempted to give the place a 2, but some of the food and the setting are just too good. Belle would give it a 3.5 and approaching a 4, but remember, she ordered the ravioli and the famous cheesecake.

Overall the best we can do for Narcoossee based on our experience is:

3/5!

I don't know where to start but you've convinced me that we need to try LTT for lunch some time and pretty much everything you've reviewed sounds delicious !

Via Napoli was a big hit with us and so was Yachtsman

Shame the service was a bit of a let down at Narcoossees

Looking forward to reading along and checking out your new ticker !!

Thursday, 8/9/12 - Lunch - Le Cellier

By this time in the trip we were honestly starting to get a little tired of all the eating. Which is VERY shocking for my family of food junkies. I don't know if we even went to Captain Cook's for breakfast on Thursday, I don't have any recept for it. It's more than possible that we decided to skip breakfast, knowing that we had an early lunch scheduled at LC.

We arrived at LC in time for the opening ceremony, and we are very glad we did! Watching the servers sing Oh Canada was very moving. We love the song, and we thought they did an excellent job. If you have an opportunity to watch this, don't miss it!

We were shortly led to a 4-top table that was quite possibly the best in the house. It was under an arch and free-standing, not along benches like many of the tables in this restaurant. We had plenty of room to move our elbows and talk to each other without feeling like we were part of another party or two. We rather liked the atmosphere in this place, although it is often cited as a reason NOT to enjoy Le Cellier. It is dark and cool and designed to be like a wine cellar. Again, we seemed to luck out on our table assignment, we might have felt differently if we had been seated on top of other families.

Our server was Jill and she was fabulous. She talked to us for quite a while about Canada, which was very enjoyable. Our water glasses were always replenished and she stopped by many times to make sure everything was OK.

You want to know about the food, right?

Each kid started off with a Red Maple, which I blieve is their name for the raspberry smoothie:

Very sweet and delicious, and also pretty filling. Just what we needed, another filling drink pre-meal!

I ordered a Niagara Refresher, which I think was primarily mango:

It must have been mango, or I wouldn't have ordered it.

Aladdin had a diet coke, of which I have no photo. We also each had an adult beverage with our entrees, I went with a Brassfield Pinot Noir and Aladdin had a Moosehead Ale.

Here is a blurry picture of the bread basket:

I'm not so sure what Jill was thinking, bringing a basket with only 3 pretzel rolls to a table with 4 people, but let's just say that this gaff was quickly rectified and sufficiently atoned for throughout the meal! OK, this pretzel bread is truly divine, if you happen to like pretzels, which we all do. And we had THOUGHT the bread at Biergarten was delicious, but this put that to shame! Honestly it was so, so yummy.

Belle and Hercules each started with a large portion of the Cheddar Cheese Soup:

It was a HUGE and filling serving! It says "bowl" on our receipt; I think they were allowed to choose between cup and bowl as their app on the DP.

And Aladdin and I split the Trio Appetizer for Two:

This had a Tomato Salad, Duck Confit Crepe (hidden under that pile of lettuce) and a shot of soup each. The salad was very refreshing but nothing particularly special, the duck confit crepe was disappointly lacking in duck, and sadly underneath that lettuce was a dry, almost empty crepe. The soup was delicious!! We all absolutely adored the soup and we used our preztel bread to ensure that not even one drop was left in any bowl! I had tasted this woup several years ago, and for some reason I thought it was even better this time. So, so good.

For our main course, Aladdin and I both ordered the Mushroom Filet:

Absolutely delicious! Cooked to the perfect medium-rare, cut with a butter knife, perfectly seasoned. The risotto was also well seasoned (not too salty), creamy, and cooked to a nice al dente (not crunchy). I loved this dish! I had had it many years ago and loved it just as much this time! It is seriously one of my favorite dishes in the world! Aladdin enjoyed it, but wasn't as impressed as I was.

Hercules was dreaming of this burger for months:

It was served with delicious melted cheddar cheese and nice crispy bacon. Sadly, the burger was overcooked. I tried to convince him to send it back, but he insisted upon keeping it. He said "an animal died to put this meat on my plate, I'm not letting it end up in the garbage." It didn't live up to his expectations. The fries were good, well-done like he likes them.

Belle went with the Gnocchi:

She loved it, and said it might have been her favorite pasta dish of the week, even though it was the least "fancy."

We also ordered 2 side dishes of Poutine:

We asked Jill if one order would be enough for all of us to have a small taste and she said "no." Really? Wow, there was WAY too much of this, and we didn't care for it too much, and we were filling up from everything else, so we didn't even finish 1 order, much less 2. The cheese and gravy were only on the top, and the entire bottom was just plain french fries. We couldn't really taste the cheese...either there wasn't enough or it couldn't stand up to the gravy, or both. It wasn't what we expected. I hear the "signature" version is better and I hope that is true. We paid for these OOP.

For dessert, Aladdin went with the Seasonal Sorbets:

I think there was a lychee and a coconut? I can't remember the other, maybe pineapple. He enjoyed this fine and found it a refreshing break from the sweet/filling desserts we'd been having.

Hercules ordered the Maple Creme Brulee:

He enjoyed this. He was kind of in a bad mood at this point from the overcooked burger and the disappointing poutine and being full anyway from the smoothie, the pretzel bread and the soup. He didn't need dessert and probably would have enjoyed this more under different circumstances. I had a taste and it was very good, though maybe served a little colder than we enjoy our creme brulee. The brulee crust was perfect, and it had a nice maple flavor, but not overly sweet.

Belle went with the no sugar added Lemon Poppy Cake:

She declared this "delicious!"

I had the Canadian Chocolate Bar:

Sorry to say, I didn't like this at all. That chocolate thing tasted and felt very stale to me, and the other flavors were very meh.

Our OOP expense for this lunch came to $71.07, which included a $41 tip, and 2 orders of poutine, a glass of wine and a beer and the taxes on those items.

This is another one that gives us difficulty with rating. Some of the items were stellar, such as the pretzel bread, the cheese soup, the mushroom filet (though Aladdin wasn't blow away by that) and the gnocchi. Unfortunately, the "misses" were big ones, including the "duck" crepe that barely contained any duck, the disappointing poutine for which we paid, the overcooked burger (they're supposed to know how to cook burgers at a steakhouse) and my gross dessert.

Overall, we have decided to rate Le Cellier with a:

3/5! I have to add here that Belle would rate this place at least a 4, as she loved her meal from end to end, and I would easily give it a 5 for the bread, soup, and filet alone. I happily would return for those items, but probably not for 2 TS credits/person. But there were too many not-so-great items to give the place a higher rating...in this family's opinion.

Please stay tuned...dinner at 'Ohana coming up!

Thursday, 8/9/12 - Snack - Karamell Kuche

This post is a little embarrassing. But you guys get me, so in the interest of full disclosure, I have to share.

Being that it was our last day in Epcot...and finding ourselves approaching the end of our trip of gluttony with an astonishing number of snack credits remaining...we took a little interlude (between lunch at Le Cellier and dinner at 'Ohana, because we weren't sure if we would have enough to eat this day)...

At Karamell Kuche!! Here's a photo:

A caramel rice crispy treat, caramel apple (OOP, it's not allowed as a snack credit), dark chocolate salted caramel, marshmallow caramel roll, chocolate caramel covered strawberry, and caramel popcorn. Every morsel of every item was eaten, with the exception of some of the corn...it was just so much. I don't think I have to elaborate on anything here. Y'all know what I'm talking about.

5/5. 'Nuff said!

If there could ever be a "must have" snack, The Kuche wins a unanimous vote from our family.

Just seeing that Granny Smith covered in caramel makes my mouth water -- and I just had breakfast!!

Thursday, 8/9/12 - Dinner - 'Ohana

We should have made this ADR for later than 7pm after our already extraordinarily calorie-laden day. But I was thinking that we MIGHT be able to make it back to Epcot for one last viewing of IllumiNations. We were kind of torn between trying to rush through dinner, and relaxing and enjoying it. Turned out that the weather ended up making that decision for us...the skies opened up somewhere in the middle of dinner and we decided not to watch IllumiNations a second time in the rain...so kicked back and took a little more time at 'Ohana.

This place has remained one of our favorites since our first family trip in 2001. It isn't exactly a must-do, but it IS a must-do when we are staying at the Poly...which we were. Would it meet our expectations, or would we be disappointed?

I can't believe that neither Aladdin nor I ordered a tropical drink. We knew we had to save room for the food, since our stomach capacity was already severely compromised! But we love the drinks here so!

View from our table:

LOVE the decor of this place! Can you discern the tikis in the distance?

Aloha Bread and Butter:

We didn't ask for the butter, our server Kalani (who was friendly and efficient and anticipated our needs and honored our requests), just delivered it with the bread. I was surprised because I had read that the bread usually comes without butter. I just nibble on it anyway, because I have to save room, so I never noticed before. It's good bread.

The Salad:

The salad is so simple, yet delicious, cold and crispy, with just the right amount of tangy/sweet dressing that has an asian flair.

The Sauces:

How we love these sauces! I have heard that now they are only serving the peanut, and that makes me sad, because I enjoy them all and can't pick a favorite. Actually, maybe it is the peanut.

Wings and Pot Stickers:

I enjoy these but would prefer if the wings were a little crispier. Belle and Hercules chomp these down, especially Herc, but Aladdin and I try to save room.

Broccoli and Noodles:

Always perfectly cooked and seasoned in our opinion. This might be my personal favorite course after the dessert. I put a little extra sauce on the noodles sometimes, but honestly, they are perfect the way they are served.

I didn't take pictures of the meats on the plate, but you know what they looked like. We all tasted them all and each was more savory than the last. One funny thing happened. My first piece of steak? Perfectly cooked to medium-rare BUT...I couldn't even cut it with my steak knife. It had this tough sinew running through it...LOL! I was wondering if this steer was related to the one I had eaten the previous night at Narcoossee's! No problem, there was another piece on my plate that was perfect, and I was too full to care to ask for more anyway.

And dessert:

Yummmmm!!!

Our OOP cost for this meal was a tip of $29.59.

We adore everything about this place and we are going out of our way to downgrade it just a little to be fair and objective, because we recognize it is a sentimental favorite or ours and our most beloved type of theme (Polynesian) and all that. But we have dined at 'Ohana 5 times now, and each time our dinner has been excellent. We have not encountered any poor service or sub-par food at all. We also continue to enjoy the ukelele and the games and the parade and all the big ado.

'Ohana gets a 4/5...but we lean toward a personal 5/5 for our deep love of the place. We can't wait to return!

...we did schedule 2 visits at Tambu Lounge. Now, that just might have to more of a "must do" on future trips...just sayin...

Love the review of 'Ohana! It gets such mixed reviews here, but we've never had a bad dinner experience. Breakfast on the other hand was kind of ruined for us over a decade ago and now we're reluctant to try again.

I think the pot stickers and the noodles are some of the best things I've ever eaten at WDW.

Oh, how I wish we were belly-up to the Tambu bar right now! Especially given today's weather. Truth be told, I'd have a hard time choosing which drink to order...it might have to be a loooong visit!

We have never tried 'Ohana for breakfast, which is kind of inexcusable, because we adore the Poly and we are big fans of Lilo and Stitch (cats' names? "Lilo" and "Stitch"). We never seem to find a way to fit it in. In general, we prefer to concentrate on getting to the parks in the am, and don't have a whole lot of motivation for sit-down breakfasts.

I like the pot stickers at 'Ohana a lot (the ones at Kona are even better, have you tried those?), but I just LOVE those noodles. What is it about those noodles?!
