If anyone has stayed at CBR multiple times, which village (that's close to OPR) is nicest?
Dansdad has already answered your renovation question. In all of our 8 stays, we have never seen any mold or mildew in our room.

As far as which village is the nicest and a good location, I'd say that Jamaica and Martinique are tied for our favorites. We have stayed in Jamaica three times, Aruba once, Barbados once and Martinique three times. Our longest walk to OPR was from our building in Barbados (bldg. 11) and it was only 7 1/2 minutes long at a very slow pace. We were behind a couple with a double stroller who were walking slowly. The other walks were less than that. Our walks from Jamaica, Aruba and non-preferred Martinique were about 5 minutes.

In our opinion, there's not a bad location on the premises.

I am glad that all your experiences have been mild free but we just stayed in Aruba 52 last week and our room we initially got smelled horribly of mold! They said they would bring a humidifier for us but I insisted on getting a new room. They quickly got us a new room but the couple in the room next to us said that their original room they checked into had mold odor too until they moved them. This totally turned me off from the first day there. I've heard nearly a dozen stories like this about CBR obviously there is a problem. On top of that I wasn't overly impressed with the resort, I think Coronado Springs cabanas section is much more beautiful and similarly beach themed, CSR on a whole I think was way nicer aesthetically. The only redeeming feature of CB is the pool area, my 4 and 8 year old LOVED the pool and especially the pirate ship area. I would go back for that with the kids but only if I planned on dedicating a lot of time to pool time at the resort. CBR is my least favorite mod now, sorry everyone we regretted not staying at the AoA.

That is bizarre. Thank you for confirming our collective fugue state. We explored the resort at all times of day and never noticed any movies or organized activities. Obviously it is imperative that we get back there ASAP and investigate thoroughly.

Outdoor movies at most WDW Resorts are relatively new. Fort Wilderness has had them forever then All Star Music started it about 4 years ago. It has spread to the rest of the resorts since then.

I don't remember exactly how long it's been but for most resorts it's been no longer than about 3 years.

We first saw outside movies at CBR during Christmas week in 2009.

Just booked our stay about an hour ago!
This will be our first stay at CBR and we are so looking forward to it. We've always wanted to stay here but just hadn't gotten around to it before.

We booked a standard view room and requested Martinique top floor or Jamaica bldg. 45, top floor.

Time to start making lists, spreadsheets, and all the other stuff that makes planning a Disney trip so fun for all the OCDer's out there

Just got the email confirmation!!!

We just got back from CBR on 1/13. We stayed in Martinique #22, and did not have any mold or mildew in our room. It was very clean, and mousekeeping did a great job. In fact, our first day there, a manager stopped by our room just to see if we needed anything. The only thing we requested was more towels (we were heading to the beach area), and he had them to our room within 10 minutes!

And yes, they showed movies by the pool every night that we were there.

DH and I stayed at CSR for a long weekend a couple of years ago. Between CSR and CBR, I actually preferred CBR. I loved the bright colors and relaxed feeling of CBR, and definitely liked the food court better at CBR. CSR is a beautiful resort also, and there is really nothing specific that I didn't like about it. I just really enjoyed CBR.

I think that is why it is good to go to WDW multiple times, and try out lots of different resorts!

We stayed in CBR 1/7-11 in a pirate room. The check in was very irritating, we've had a pirate room booked from the beginning and when the CM wrote down our room info and showed me where it was on a map I questioned if it was indeed a pirate room (I knew it wasn't because of the location). I was assured it was. Sure enough it wasn't! Took longer than it should have to get it straightened out and into an actual pirate room, but from then on there weren't any issues. My boys loved the pirate theme and had a great time exploring the room and details of it. I know a lot of people complain about the beds because the mattresses are so thin but we didn't have a problem with them at all (maybe it's because we were so tired by the time we actually got in bed!). I had 2 packages delivered to us there that arrived the first day and they brought them to our room which was nice. We didn't get to explore around the resort and the distance from everything being in a pirate room wasn't a concern for us since we had our own vehicle and didn't plan on having any down time there.

Although I was a bit disappointed with our stay I am still glad we did stay there. I like to try everything at Disney too. I would just do some things different, #1 I would stay in preferred and #2 make sure we were on the ground floor. Our first moldy room was on the ground floor so a 2nd floor mold free was preferable. I will say that I'm sure the mold is not common but I've heard enough complaints and experienced it that the resort should be more proactive and make sure a room is not moldy before they allow someone to check in. They said that the resort was only at 50% capacity so there really isn't any reason they couldn't have let the room go unoccupied for a couple days and run a dehumidifier. Now on the other hand if we had not requested a specific location than they may not have filled the room as quickly. My #3 change for staying at the CBR would be planning more resort time and enjoying the pool area.

2nd Floor

For those of you who request 2nd floor, what is your reason? Are there balconies in any of the villages? If not, do the windows open? How do they open? Sliders?

We just prefer to not have anyone above us. And we are way past the stroller stage so going up one flight of stairs is no problem. There are no balconies. I am not sure about the windows opening. I have never tried to open them.

Thanks DansDad! Good point about not having anyone above you. Are the ceilings higher or vaulted on the top floor?

I've read a bit about on-line check in. How soon before you get there should you do that? Or do you have to do it once you're there?

You're welcome. No, the ceilings are not higher or vaulted on the 2nd floor.

With the new website, you are supposed to be able to do online check-in anytime once you hit 60 days prior to your arrival. If this is your first time staying at CBR, I would suggest waiting until you arrive to check-in. If you check in normally, the CM will take some time and explain some details about the resort. With online check-in, your paperwork and KTTW are printed up and ready for you when you arrive. You show your ID, they give you your packet and you're off.

We request the top floor because there is less foot traffic/noise and because we like to look out over everything. We find that when we are in a ground floor room the view is limited. I have never attempted to open a window at any Disney resort All I imagine is children falling out of them!
