But I do know that you *can* use DVC points to pay for an ABD. From what I've seen in the past, I believe: You book it through DVC. A chart is posted each year on how many points it "costs" to do a particular ABD. Anyone on the same reservation, if not paid for with points, must be paid in cash in full at the time the reservation is made I'm sure folks will let you know if any of that has changed! Sayhello

Yes, but it's not a good use of points.. You'll need about a million of them to book a trip

The point charts are on the member site. You can pay by points for one or all of your parties. There is also a $95 fee when you book if you use points.

Yes you can. In fact, we booked our upcoming CR ABD using points. If you don't have enough points to cover the whole trip, you would have to pay upfront for the others in the party. There is a one time $95 booking fee and they will offer insurance for the points used as well which I think is reasonable.

Thank you. I had a feeling you could use them. Should I try to sell my points and use the cash?

I always use my points to book ABD trips. So far, I've done two and plan on doing a lot more. As other PP have said, they don't think it's a good use of points. Make up your own mind and do what works for you. If you decide to rent your points to get the cash, read some of the threads to see what's involved. Also, check the points charts for ABD to see if you have enough points to book a trip. If you travel solo, you will be charged an additional single supplement in points. The number of points for a trip increases a little each year.

You can, yes. Only I can't imagine how many points that is.

For the upcoming NYC Dreams trip it is either 160 points or $1599. If I rent my points for $10/point, then I have just the right amount of cash to pay for the trip. If I use my points, I would use the same number of points and pay $95. Personally, I would rather use my points and pay the fee not to have to hassle with renting points.
Yes, ABD trips cost a lot of points, but you have to consider you are not just getting a room. You are getting the room, food and the Adventure. We did the Backstage Magic trip a couple of years ago partially on points and partially on cash. It was totally worth every point and every dollar!

I also always use my points to book ABD and Disney cruises. If you are a DVC member and haven't registered at dvcmember.com it would be a good idea to do it. Everything you need to know is there and if you don't find what you need you can always call them. Most ABD trips are over 400 points with many over 700. All the point charts are online as well as in the book you get yearly.

Took the dive on ABD for Backstage Magic, but found the point cost to be higher than renting at $10/point. We rented out and cashed in on the trip. Great thing was, we were able to rent our points very quickly--we rented all the points needed to cover the cost within a month of listing. Not sure if it had anything to do with having AKL and BCV points. DVC points are in high demand if you use a good rental site.
We had a great no-hassle experience renting our DVC points. I fear what it would take to rent our BlueGreen points, though... |
