I've read that in some ports certain frequencies are illegal for private parties to use.

Do the wave phones make any kind of sound like the beeping noise that some 2ways use?

The Wave phones are set to vibrate only and can't be changed.

Wonderful. That beeping gets old really fast. Maybe that's why they installed them.

walkie talkies would be useful if your party is planning on splitting up/doing their own thing before or after the cruise or during the port stops. They are useful to have - we're bringing ours cause we're renting 2 cars after the cruise.
I would not recommend taking the wave phones off the boat because they won't work and they're damn expensive to replace. |

We used walkie talkies on our first cruise and it worked out perfectly.. my husband and I had one and gave the other to our son so that we can always be in touch. We preferred he have a walkie talkie than a wave phone only cause we didn't wanna risk any damage to them cause it a 200 charge for lost/damaged wave phones
