Any suggestions? My TA isn't being much help. She just tells me to look at brochures.
We're staying at Hispanos 7 Suiza. We're a family of 4 but they also have accomodations for 5. We got the prepaid rate of 230E/nt. 2br/2ba, LR, kitchen, W/D, free wifi.

Sorry, I need a Paris hotel or apartment.

In Barcelona we are doing the precruise ABD so our hotels are fine for that.

We are a family of 5 doing a post-cruise stay in Paris. We used Vacations in Paris to book a short term Apartment rental. We found a great two bedroom that sleeps 6 in the 7th Arrondissement. The price was much better than the hotel prices plus we have access to a kitchen.

Thank you. I sent them an email. I haven't booked my flights so this is where it gets tricky as I don't know the exact date I'm coming in.

My TA says her flight costs aren't out yet, so I feel a little frustrated. AAAAA.

Including all fares, tranportation, entrance fees, tickets, lunch, snacks and the whole enchilada, we spent $325 for the four of us. That same year, DCL offered a cruise called "Rome on Your Own" where they would bus you to Rome, kick you off the bus with a tour book, and bus you back to the ship that night. The cost was $299 per "adult," with "adult" starting at age 10. Because that "Rome on Your Own" tour did not include admission, subway, lunch or anything like that, we saved about $1000 by doing Rome truly "on our own."
How far is the walk to/from the port to the train station? My understanding is that there is a shuttle that takes you from the actual ship dock to the pier "gates", then you have to walk to the station. Is that right?

Did you guys take the shuttle to the entrance of the pier? Does it cost money? Was there a long line?

We are taking the train from the Vatican back to the port, and I have a good idea of the walk, etc. Would love a first-hand point of view of logistics on how long the walk is, what to do when you get to the pier entrance in order to get to the port.

We're hiring a car to take us into Rome in the morning to save time, so this will only be for the way back.
I don't remember any shuttles at all. I think we walked from the ship all the way to the train station, which took about 15 minutes, tops. I'm cheap.

Would anyone recommend Lucca?

Florence is 2.5 hours away from the port. My kids can't sit that long in a car. They'll go nuts and drive everyone else nuts. Lucca is closer. Is it worth the trip? There's a DCL combo excursion for Lucca and Pisa...

There is a Disney Store in Covent Garden... At least there was in 2010.

Although I have never been to Lucca (or anywhere else in Europe for that matter), I hear Lucca is beautiful! I feel the same way...although I would love to go to Florence, my kids would never be able to deal with the travel time. We also have a big day in Rome right after that.
So we are planning on doing the Pisa/Lucca tour through DCL too.

This might be helpful for some...

http://usa.visa.com/personal/using_v...x_rates_us.jsp

I thought the rates were determined by each bank. It's actually Visa that sets the rate so the Capital One card really is a good deal. I read somewhere someone said that even though CO has no transaction fees, their exchange rate is worse than other banks. It could only be different if the other cards were Amex or a MasterCard.

We did Lucca in 2011 and it's still one of DDs favorite days. Absolutely beautiful town. We did a private driver guide to Pisa and Lucca. In Lucca, we rented bikes and rode on top of the fortress walls that have been made into a bike/walking path. We also walked through out the town, had a fabulous lunch and the best gelato ever. On our way back to port our driver took us to a gorgeous private villa where thee owners allow tours of the main level and gardens.

Thanks! The tour of the private villa sounds amazing!

We are looking into Lucca and appreciate your opinion....
