That's my plan. I figure I'll focus on 5K improvements between now and the Expedition Everest Challenge at the beginning of May. Then I'll start the Bridge to 10K, because I have this fantasy of maybe running the Tower of Terror 10 miler in September!

Actually, the best way to work on 5k speed as a beginning is to begin to lengthen your long run.

No problem. It mostly has to do with endurance. If the furthest you've ever run is 5k, it's going to be an obstacle to get there every time. If you are doing 5 or 6 mile runs once a week, your 5k becomes easier in comparison.

Would you recommend adding 2 minutes each run (still doing 3 runs per week)?

As it stands now, I'm barely hitting 2 miles if I run straight through both cool downs. (as of last week that was roughly 38 minutes for 2 miles). I was just thinking of tacking on a little bit more time each run until I actually hit 3.1 consistantly.

Does this program just have you running the whole time or does it go back to the walk/run intervals?

That's what I was thinking I would do, but after seeing some other advice, maybe I will just move on. Of course I have to FINISH the C25k first

I think that is a great fantasy to have! My current fantasy is running the food and wine half! I think it's a stretch for this year, but maybe next year!

Thanks for the advice! Did you use any of these programs to start your running or did you just go out and do it?

Well, today I am officially half way through the C25k program. I visited my in-laws in Puerto Rico over the weekend and did my run there. I live in NY, so it has been cold and windy since I started this program. The heat and humidity were a welcome change to my bones, but it definitely slowed my time. And they are in a very hilly area, so that was new to this Long Island (read: flat) girl! But I did it!

Congrats! I'm running on my treadmill right now, but I know before my EEC race, I'll move it outdoors at least a month a head of time. I'm spoiled having the treadmill set my pace for me...

Oh my goodness that just sounds like a majestic place to run, despite the heat! Talk about a change of scenery!

Oh that's a great idea!

We have had nothing but rain here for almost 2 weeks straight. I miss the sun! So I'm headed back to the gym tonight to run. But today marks W9D1! If the schedule goes as planned, I will be a graduate of C25K on Saturday!

This was my "track" and my view - that's the Caribbean sea out there.
