Downgrading cabin - same price as opening day ?
I can't find a thread to confirm this or not, but hope someone can help with current information - if a cabin is booked on opening day, can it be downgraded later on to a comparable opening day price for the lower cabin ?
Hope that makes sense. We're looking at downgrading one of our cabins for the Alaskan cruise, which were both booked on opening day. The current prices are now over $1000 more per cabin than what we paid. Thanks in advance. Cheers, Sally

YES!!! When you book it locks the rate for all the categories at that time. As long as you keep the same cruise date, you can downgrade or upgrade at the rate it was the day you booked.

Unless the rules have changed (and there have been a lot of rule changes in the last year or so....), when you book, you are placed in a tier level. If you upgrade or downgrade, you remain in that tier--the prices are based on the rates at the time you did the original booking for those individuals booked at that time.
IF you add a person to your reservation, that new person is added at today's rates. I know this part is current as of a month ago. |

I asked my TA how much it would be to upgrade to a cat 4 on our upcoming cruise, and it was $200 -- same as opening/booking day. If you do not have a TA you can look it up yourself by selecting to modify your stateroom category. It will not have the current price, but the one at the time you booked.

If you change the date, you will pay current rate when you switch.

If you booked it online yourself, just log in and click Stateroom and change category. You'll see what the prices are for you to downgrade a cabin. This price is probably different than prevailing rates.

I guess I learn something new everyday! We want to upgrade our cabin... does this mean that if I upgrade tomorrow or in 6 months, if the price of the cabin went up, I will still only pay the opening day rate???? If that is the case, we also booked at a 10% deposit, if we upgrade do we only have to put down 10 percent still or will it be the full 20???? this is good information to know!

If you booked after opening day, the rates should be locked to whatever they were when you booked.
