Economical eating

Hi we are going to wdw for the first time at Easter. Because of our family's needs we are staying at the contemporary resort. As we have spent so much money on the holiday we are looking for ways of being economical with food costs. We don't drive. Does anyone know if there are small stores in the disney hotels where we can buy milk, juice and snacks etc. so that we can have breakfast in the room & lunch on the go?
Also has anyone tried any of the shopping delivery services & had grocery items delivered to hotel rooms.

Each htel has a store with small selection of goods like that. Your resort has a nice grocery kind of shop although you do pay a it extra.

If your in downtown disney walk across the road to the hex garage and it will be alot cheaper

The Garden Grocer was good for delivery, but yes the garage at DTD has the basics at a lot less money. The best stores at WDW are the ones in DVC resorts and I think your resort has one of the best now. We went in there in Sept and there was a big choice. The other good store is the one at the Boardwalk.

You could also catch the 56 bus from the TTC and it stops outside Walmart, it only takes about 20mins and only costs $2.00 each way, kids are free.

If you're staying for two weeks and really want to save money on eating out. Take a taxi to the nearest supermarket and buy sandwich fillings, butter, snacks and bread and make a pack up for lunch every day. Or downgrade your hotel and eat out at Disney. Or stay off site and eat really in expensively. If you want to get food delivered then Garden Grocer works, but check your order. Last summer they left us two cases of water short and because they left the order with bell services at the Beach Club I couldn't do a thing about it.

We always take a box or two of cereal with us when we stay on site, just buy milk from the resort gift shop. My kids like to eat as soon as they wake so this helps us, don't know if it really is a money saver, we still buy breakfast too!

A few other suggestions I have seen for eating in the parks include:

(1) Sharing a CS meal between two, as quite often the portions are large and usually come with fries.
(2) Alternatively, ask for just the sandwich without fries etc which will save you a few $s.
(3) Just buy one drink between two of you.
(4) Order a kids meal which includes a small drink.
(5) You can ask for a cup of water at the food stalls free of charge

As you are staying at the Contemporary, you could eat off-site by taking the resort monorail to the Transportation and Ticketing Centre then catch the Lynx no 50 bus every 30 minutes ($2 each way, kids travel free) to the Lake Buena Vista/Crossroads area, where there are quite a few restaurants including Olive Garden, Chevvys (Mexican), iHop, Sweet Tomatos, Sizzlers, Chillis, Pizza Hut, Black Angus, Fuddruckers etc.

You could order pizza from Flippers and have it delivered. They also have salad, desserts, pasta, sandwiches and beverages.

We usually do most of our meals at the restaurants but throw in a few days of peanut butter sandwiches in the parks for lunch. This saves a lot and we don't need to bring a heavy cooler to keep anything cold. For breakfast we bring packets of oatmeal and cereal bars from home.
