Expedition Everest Challenge

Hi There!

Anyone heading down in May for the Expedition Everest Challenge? Anyone have any feedback on the event as this will be my first EEC? I just did the ToT 10 miler in Sept and really enjoyed it so wanted to give another runDisney race a go!

I am still on the fence about doing Expedition Everest Challenge this year but I did complete this race last year. In my humble opinion EEC is my favorite Disney 5K. It's an evening race in Animal Kingdom and includes three obstacles (hay jump, tires and low crawl) but you can run around these if you want. After you complete the 5K you are given a random card to figure out clues as you work your way around Animal Kingdom. If your not good with puzzles don't worry cast members are around to help you. Afterwards you remain in the park to enjoy several rides and the after party. The EEC medal is one of my favorites. If you have any specific questions about this race please do not hesitate to asks. Enjoy.

we did EEC in 2011 and loved it. Would do it again if we were there at the right time.

It was great with some people dressed up and characters cheering you on.

A great fun night Doesn't matter if you run, walk or jog and the puzzles were good fun. Also riding EE after dark

I did this race in 2011. It was a lot of fun and hope to do it again sometime. I have now completed all the WDW races except the Princess, and I think Marathon weekend is still my favorite. Will definately be back for that in 2014 and might be going Goofy.

This is going to be our first year doing it, Not knowing what to expect but it will be our first big 5k leading up to our Airforce 10K in Sept. I guess if we do well we are thinking about the Tower of Terror 10 miler in Oct. From all the past stuff Ive seen on forums and on youtube it looks like alot of fun.

Ran this the first two years when it was held in the fall. Great race. The second year it began to POUR right about the ime we finished the race portion and headed out to the obstacle course. By the time we began the scavenger hunt we were soaked and running in ankle deep water. When we reached the finish line with our completed books most of the race officials were abandoning their posts. I seem to recall them deciding to give everyone a finisher's medal that year and not just those who actually finished. Would not mind doing this race again some day.

I may sign up and do this. I have an annual pass so I better use it, right? Do many people from this group share rooms? Id rather split cost of room and have money for more disney travel.

That's awesome! I did the Family 5k on Marathon weekend last year. I want to go back in 2014 and do the half marathon also!

The 5k looks fun. The marathon is yhe most boring marathon route ever. Horrible for running. Great support though.

I didn't think it was boring, besides all the entertainment that Disney provides you get to run in areas of the parks that you would not normally have access to. But it is still a long distance to run, and was glad to see the finish line!

Let me clarify. Its a run on highways and back lots. No shade with a small stretch at mile 13ish through sewage treatment plant. You do get to run through the parks which is awesome but most is on roads with absolutely no view.
Having said yhat, there id a fun energy around it and it is by far the best supported race ive ever seen. Probably worth doing once but the course is one of the most boring, imo.
