I always wonder about that too! If discounts are to fill rooms, then booking early seems to work against us, but then there are such a small number of people who stalk discounts we really wouldn't make much of a difference & we possibly miss booking what we really want.

We will be going on or around dec14-22nd. I have decided this year to hold off on booking our trip until either A) a discount comes out or B) until I can no longer stand not having a trip booked! I like making payments on the disney site instead of one lump sum it makes me feel like I'm not spending as much as I really am but ill just make payments to my piggy bank and hand it over to Mickey when the (hopefully) discount comes out! I really don't love the FD discount change rumor going around but I'd rather eat for $18 per adult per day than $55 per adult per day! It'll make our trip $400 more than FD DDP at POR but it's waaaaay better than rack rate! I just can't wait until we hear something !!

Since this thread seems somewhat active I was just wondering if there is an "official" december 2013 thread somewhere. I tried looking for one and came up short. Thanks!

Um....I believe this might qualify as the "official" December thread - at least on the Discount board. So hop on and enjoy the ride...it's a long one!

LOL - true, but it's not just the ones stalking the discounts - there has been a panic created that everyone thinks they have to book early or they won't get a room - it would be really interesting to see what would happen if everyone sat back and waited til maybe 3 months before the trip - probably won't ever happen because the ADR window opens up around 6 months and those same folks (aka "us") would worry that we won't get reservations where we want to eat lol - vicious circle of craziness!!!

We are hoping to go Dec. 7-13! It will be our first trip with our DS. Typically I just book once the discounts come out, but we are really wanting to stay at Wilderness Lodge and I know that books up quicker over Christmas. If I book now can I have any discounts that come out applied to my room?

If you book a room only you can apply a percent off discount when it comes out. If you book a package you can apply a package discount if it comes out. If you book a room only or package and want to switch to the other you technically have to cancel and then rebook. HTH

That does help, thanks! So would that make room and tickets a package? Or would that just be a room only? If I am hoping to get FD, will I need to include dining in my package, or does having tickets included make it a package without dining?

If you are getting tickets anyway just add the tickets, you don't need to add dining
