This is exactly my experience. I spent 3 years at ASU and really enjoyed my time there. You can't beat doing reading for classes at the pool. There's a ton of shopping and restaurants in between Tempe and Scottsdale. Flagstaff is not that far for a change of scenery, and you can also be at the beach in San Diego in around 6 hours. I don't think I'd want to live there forever, but I wouldn't mind moving back for a few years.

I have lived in Phoenid the majority of my life, I am 28, and have only seen a snake in the wild here once and that was while hiking in the desert about an hour away from my house, same thing with the trantulas. I have seen about 3 scorpions. You are only going to see these usuall if you are living near the desert or a newly built development. The heat sucks, I wont lie, but it is better than the humidity IMO. Every house/apartment/condo has A/C so you dont have to worry about it like in other parts of the country.

I am here right now

Sure is different here, can tell if the sun feels so strong now, can only imagine how it feels in the summer. The thing that has amazed me so far, my interview was with a sheet metal manufacturer and never thought about how they need to deal with the heat while working around welding. It's funny how much stuff is done in the open air. It is brown but does have a beauty all it's own. If offered a job I am not sure what our decision will be. Thank you to all for your comments.

Not a fan of the whole desert thing. I prefer tropical.

I've been to AZ a few times, one of which was in the summer. I still say that I would love to live there. They have a few months of oppressive heat, we have a few months of oppressive cold. I'd prefer the heat.

Oddly, though, the coldest I have ever been on a trip was in AZ in the summer! I had only summer clothes packed (I mean, it WAS 110 degrees outside), but the air conditioning was CRANKED everywhere I went. I froze!
