Considering there are only 10 9A staterooms on Dream & Fantasy, it would seem the upgrade chances are high to begin with, and it also sounds like those with 8's prefer not to give them up.

I also wonder how upgrades are done... if they need oceanview space, do they simply move the 9D GTY's in order to open up the least expensive oceanviews or do they move the 8A GTY's and then the 8B GTY's, on down the line?

We're in the same boat as you for our October cruise - only GTY's between us and Cat 5B - and we're hoping that we end up with two cabins together, and verandah would be awesome!
