Merchandise discount down to 10% for Premuim AP - The DIS Discussion Forums

Really? I mean Disney are you that poor that you need to charge us Premium passholders 10%more now on what we buy? For those of you wondering the merchandise discount dropped to 10% instead of 20% in the new year.
Well now I will buy less.

I am so mad about this...ridiculous! I have the premier passport and just purchased the dang thing in December. I already email Disney about this and I am writing a letter. I just forked out a TON of money and the deciding factor was the merchandise discount. I could have stuck with my NORMAL AP and just paid for the DL tix...the price was a wash...the only reason I decided to do the Premier Passport was the added discount! Ugghhhhhh

They get thousands of my $$ each year in JUST MERCHANDISE! So I feel completely slapped in the face.

The next sentence after the one where they tell you that it's 10% for 2013 is this:
"Please note that from time to time we evaluate our discounts and offers for Passholders and make adjustments so continue to check out Disneyworld.com/Passholder throughout the year for all the latest offers."
I have a feeling that if there is enough blowback they will reinstate the 20% for Premiere....

I see no problem with this. Disney's job is to make a profit, if this helps more power to them...TDBIASWS.

Disney hardly has a problem making a profit. They sold me a banana for 2$!

I can almost guarantee they won't be reinstating the 20 percent discount. It's the same principle of rolling back some of the heavy resorts discounts. Between New Fantasyland and the new Next-Gen system they're about to roll out, Disney clearly believes people don't need extra "perks" to keep coming back.

I'm with KapBoy on this one Kona, Disney doesn't need any assistance to make money. They basically print cash in their parks.

I, too, was disappointed to find this out. However, as a DVC member, I just bought my very first AP at all...a Premium AP for $399. So, I'd bet that they are discounting APs, but taking away from the benefits. Not sure what I'd rather, as I am new to the AP game. Time will tell.

I also find this ridiculous. I will no longer purchase a Premium AP and the amount of merchandise I buy will change significantly now. Disney makes a ton of money from my family each year, not including our DVC payments, so I am more than 100% certain that Disney is making PLENTY of profit!!!

And I did write them as well. Because of the 20% discount, we spent over $2000 in merchandise in December..... this is something we never do....but because of the discount, I could allow myself to purchase all of that over-priced stuff.

Wonder if we also lost the places we get 20% off for food?

I've already written to Disney and complained about the discount being lowered. Will the regular AP end up being a 5% discount?

We personally buy ALOT of merchandise each trip so this is a huge kick to us. We buy more expensive items (art,ornaments/figurines ect) rather than tshirts and mugs, so it is a substantial loss to us.
