Nine Dragons is supplied by an outside vendor. You need to call the number listed for the restaurant in Post #2 of this thread to ask if this is an option. It wasn't at the time I called, but let me know if it is now and I'll add it to the post.

From what I read on this thread it seems that people tend to be somewhat disappointed when they aren't specific enough with requests? So it might not be best to sort of leave it up to the chef? I know I shouldn't order until a few weeks ahead of time, but I'm wondering how I should order it? Thanks for any feedback!!!! Until then I'll keep looking through these threads....
I'd just look for regular-size cakes you like and then ask the chef to interpret them as mini cakes (they will not be as elaborate on a small scale but it will have the feel).

To order at the Contemporary you call the number in Post #2 and request the pastry chef's email. Then you send him the photo and description of what you want and he gets back to you with a price. Then you call the number again and place your order. They connect it with the info you sent the chef.

The prices have gone way up, but not that far up. She probably assumed your original cake had fondant, but when she sees it's just buttercream, the price should go down.

I called about 6 days before my trip to reconfirm, and she was really helpful.

Yep! Podium cakes are 6 inches and cost $21. You're not going to get a podium cake. It will be closer to a supermarket-style cake in appearance, though, since you're not doing fondant.

The buttercream might get a little soft and the colors runny after a while, but it shouldn't melt into a heap.

Thanks
I called twice. Still have not spoken to a person. Nine dragons is on the epcot list but I have yet to get ahold of an actual person to talk about ordering. Ugh
Is The boardwalk making cakes now that the window is closed? Maybe I could order there and pick it up?
Thanks
Heidi

In the first post of this thread, the first link under "PHOTOS" is Standard Cake Photos. That's current. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.ph...&postcount=297

OK I just spoke with the food & bev manager at the China pavilion.
I ordered a White cake with Strawberry filling with a Mulan theme (8 In) saying Happy Birthday Aurora.
It was $34 and he did now ask for a CC# but he did want my number in case he needed to call me back.
Well see what happens. If that is the case it might be the best cake deal on property!

WOW, I just called and talked to a sweet lady at the CR to see about ordering the cake for my sons 7th birthday. She first kept telling me about the "Standard" cake with the picture of lion king printed on it but I told her I wanted something really special. She told me they could do a mad hatter style, lion king theme but told me to email chef Brian or Donald and ask what exact characters they would be able to do. I emailed and am waiting on a answer. She was so helpful and nice and very knowledgeable. I look forward to getting some more answers from my email. I am getting so excited for this trip

I have been playing phone tag with Pat about a cake for next Tuesday and still haven't spoken with her in person. Can I just email my request to her? Does anyone have the e-mail address to do that? Thanks!

Hi everyone:

I've been lurking for awhile and just wanted to officially post and let you know about the cakes we ordered for our dinner last week at the California Grill. I had two mini cakes made for my two kids, since the trip was a joint birthday present for them (DS is 4 and DD just turned 1). DD's cake was a marble cake with white chocolate mousse filling, topped with pale pink irredescent butter cream and a few white sparkly snowflakes (which I think were fondant or molding chocolate). DS's was red velvet cake with cream cheese filling and was frosted in white buttercream decorated with mini Mickey's in blue, red and yellow buttercream and topped with a sparkly black set of miniature Mickey ears made out of sugar.

The price for both cakes was $80, plus tax, which I thought was very reasonable. Both were delicious and enough to feed all four of us for two nights (although my DH probably could have polished them both off by himself the first night, so just be warned that one really isn't big enough to give three or four adults a full serving of cake).

Trying to figure out how to post some pics of some cakes I've ordered..sorry if the pics are huge..can't seem to figure how to make them smaller.

First one was ordered through Yacht and Beach private dining for my daughter's 21st birthday back in Dec. 2011. I was quoted $55.00 for a fondant covered mini wedding cake, white cake, vanilla buttercream and white chocolate mousse filling, but was only charged $32.00 plus tax and grat. Had it delivered to Yachtsman Steakhouse after dinner. Confirmed with hostess at podium.

The next one was from this past August...my son proposed to his girlfriend at the Yacht Club wedding gazebo during our family photo shoot. I contacted the Boardwalk bakery via e-mail with a photo of the cake that my son's fiance liked for a wedding cake.
White cake, vanilla buttercream and white chocolate mousse filling, fondant covered. Was quoted and charged $55.00. I wanted the mini cake size but they could not get the detail on a cake that small so I went with the 6in. It was just the 2 of them at dinner but they took it back to the villa and we ate it for days!! Had the cake delivered to Flying Fish where they were to have dinner that night. I pre-paid the cake, as I did not want it added to their bill and it worked out well. I dropped by the Boardwalk Bakery earlier in the day to catch a peek at it...

The last cake was also from this past August's trip..It was my son's fiance's birthday. Ordered a 1/4 sheetcake from Publix and we took it to dinner at Margaritaville. Half chocolate and half white cake..was $28.99.

All the cakes tasted great!!
Looking forward to this August when we'll celebrate the adoption of our little one...looking to do a Dumbo or Stitch theme.

I sent you a PM

And as for my cake, I got a different quote of $42 for the one that I wanted. That's better than $80!

Bring our own?

A friends family and my family are meeting in DW in October. Our girls are going to be 3 while we're there. We are doing BBB the morning of and are going to CRT for lunch or dinner. We aren't overly thrilled with the Princess package - but still want to celebrate. Can we bring in our own cake at the time of the dinner? What bakery do you recommend?
