Oh My Goodness! After months of lurking and hinting, I might have finally convinced my husband that a cruise for us and the 2 kiddos (7 and 8 . ) is a great idea!

We are sitting here right now looking at the KSF promotion out of Galveston on 3/1. $3082 for 4 people for 8 nights? Wow! (We would be first time cruisers.... So it's all new to us) bonus: The timing would be great, since March is our 10 year wedding anniversary and we have yet to go on a honeymoon.

Honestly, the toughest part of making it happen will be the logistics of getting there and making sure that we are at the right places at the right times, so before we make this decision, we need to be sure that it is feasible. We live in South Dakota, so it's not easy to get anywhere. If we fly in to Houston, what is the best way to get to the Galveston port? Is there a bus option that goes from that far away, or are we pretty much forced to rent a car and drive ourselves? Most of my prior research about cruising has been out of Port Canaveral, so this one is catching me way off guard!

Needing to make a decision pretty quickly, what are our best options for Houston/Galveston transportation?

I'm an impulse buyer, and I'm scaring myself that I might really have my better half ready to jump on this one. Thoughts? Talk me down?

Don't know about that area. However, for port Canaveral we rent a car to drive the hour to the port and stay at a hotel the night before next to the port. It is a good idea to get there a day early that way you know you make it on the boat! You are going to LOVE the cruise.

Look for the thread called All things Galveston or something like that. You can rent a car and drive to the port or there are other options. Hobby is closer and SW flies there if that matters.

Sorry, I've never been to Houston before. Check out this All Things Galveston thread. Maybe you'll find your answers there.

There are two airports in Houston.....Hobby (HOU) and George Bush (IAH). Hobby is about 45 minutes from the Galveston port and Bush is about 90 minutes. Disney currently offers shuttles from each. It costs $30 per person each way for Hobby and $35 pp each way for Bush.

Lucky you! I considered the March 1st cruise but we just cruised out of Galveston this past December. We live half way across the country so another flight and cruise won't happen again that soon.

And warning.....Disney cruises are very addictive! We've done two and can't wait to go again! I hope you get to go....have a great time!!

I would recommend that since you are first time cruisers that you book ground transportation through Disney when you make your cruise reservation.
