May vs. August

Has anyone done a Carribean cruise in both May and August? We usually vacation in May (WDW several times, Eastern cruise 1 time). This year we're thinking about going in August. We can't go in May as I'm expecting DS#2 in April.

We considered going in October, but I don't think I want to take DS#1 out of school (1st grade), especially so early in the school year.

I'm wondering if the mix of kids in August is a lot different then May (more school age kids, less of the under 5 crew)? Also, up here in Michigan August can be unbearable outside, I'm kind of worried about the August heat with a 4 month old baby.

Thoughts, experiences, advice - all appreciated!!

We usually cruise around Aug 23. That way the kids can get back before school starts.

We love cruising then. I ocean is warm enough to swim in. we hate cold water.

We went to WDW in August this year instead of cruising. It was miserable.

We went on a cruise last year in August (not Disney) and will never do it again. We are from Texas, so used to the hot weather, but the caribbean in August is unbearable! Plus, it is hurricane season. That could affect your ports and how calm the water is. We went out of New Orleans and after we left, a tropical storm formed in the gulf and sat over the mouth of the Mississippi for 3 days. We could not get back and ended up on a 10 day cruise instead. Fortunately they did not run out of food, but just rolling around in the gulf looking for sunny spots was not that exciting. Anyone that flew in had to use the ship phones and try to rearrange their flights, causing alot of stress. Some of the kids onboard missed the first couple of days of school.
