Thank you, everyone, for your suggestions, support and concern.

He got home from attending the funeral and I met him at the door and asked him how he was feeling. His back still hurt, but he just feels he twisted it wrong or pulled a muscle. He has had back issues before. It just worried me when he said his stomach hurt too. He wasn't sweaty or clammy. I told him I thought he should go to Urgent Care, but he pooh-poohed the idea, even after I told him some of you thought he should seek medical attention. But, since he wasn't feeling worse, I didn't insist. He has spent the afternoon resting, with the heating pad on his back. I made soup for him, and have been watching him. He's been napping a little, so I think if he was in really severe pain I don't think he would be able to do that. He plans to rest tomorrow too.

He's the type of guy who won't slow down when he has back issues, so it takes longer for his back to heal. But with a couple days of rest, hopefully he will be feeling better by Monday as I doubt he will take a day off work.

Thanks again, everyone. Sorry I didn't get back here sooner to update. I probably shouldn't have even started the thread, but when he felt so bad before he left to go to the funeral, then I was home by myself wondering how he was doing, etc. and did some research on the internet (that's not always a good thing ) I got even more worried. I should have just waited to see how he felt when he got home. And, he went to the funeral with his two sisters and brother-in-law, so he wasn't alone.

He should ice his back not heat it.

I'm not a Dr. or anything but if it is back pain he needs to ice 15/20 min. on then off.

Hope that helps a bit!

I agree! I'm not a doctor either, but I am a Physical Therapist Asst. so I somewhat know what I'm talking about.

I've been having flare-ups of sciatica & the ice made a world of difference! If his back pain is due to inflammation then the cold is what he needs to reduce the inflammation. A frozen bag of peas in a pillowcase applied to my back for 15 minutes helped me tremendously!

I hope your hubby feels better soon.

I still say he needs to go to the ER. With back and stomach pain it could be a pulled muscle or it could be an aortic aneurysm. You don't get cold and clammy from a pulled muscle.

As a long time kidney stone sufferer, my best advice is go to the ER...not
Urgent Care, the ER. A hospital is best able to test and diagnose. With my
many stones, I have had back pain that gravitates toward the front; I
Have also been feverish, clammy, nauseated, and achy. I always found the
heating pad (on doctor's advice) gave me some comfort.

THIS! You don't put heat on a hot spot and expect it to cool off. He could very well have further irritated a muscle pull by using all that heat. ICE like Holycow said but only 3X then rest it and start again for a 2nd time. Too much ice can cause tissue damage. I'd be giving my husband aspirin, just in case. It's an excellent anti-inflammatory and it's what you're supposed to do if you suspect a heart attack.

He is much better today, thanks for asking.

He thinks it was just a pulled muscle that he kept aggravating because he wouldn't slow down and rest, until yesterday. He rested all day, with the heating pad on and off, slept well overnight, and his back felt much better this morning and another day of rest today will do him good. He does plan to get back to work tomorrow though. He is a farmer but at this time of year in Michigan there is nothing to be done, but he's also an almost-full-time crop insurance adjuster. I don't mind seeing him do desk work, or even driving to farmer's homes to get signatures, or take photos of poor crops in the field, etc. but he needs to measure some corn bins and I hate to see him do that with his back just now healing. In order to measure he has to climb up, and then down inside the bins.

I do want to thank everyone again for their concern and support.

Glad to hear he's getting better. See in a day or two if it's better or worse. If it's worse, I'd go to the doctor.
