Agree with dansdad here... a lot of people say POR is too big but if you're in a Royal Room, there is a bridge straight across to the main building and food court. 5 mins tops. It is a long walk to the main pool if you are in Parterre Place, but there is a quiet pool in between the Royal Rooms buildings.

As much as I like POR, I might choose AoA in your situation. With a 6 year old girl, she would get a much bigger kick out of seeing all the familiar Disney scenes and characters at AoA, especially if she is a LM fan. The themeing at POR, while beautiful, is likely lost on children. Even the Royal Room theme can be considered on the subtle side, compared to something like the LM room. Since it's just the two of you, I don't think the rooms will make much difference. If mom was coming, I might change my mind to POR for the Queen beds, but since she's not I doubt if it will be a factor.

It's still tight, but yes, those POR fireworks beds do rock, but you're talking about 2 people, not 4. As for the landscaping, meh. I don't think it's impressive, I think it's way too spread out. And what may be peaceful for adults is boring to the kids. The only characters kids will see at POR is in the gift shop. And while yes the slide is cool, the Nemo and Cars pool at AOA is way more fun. My kids were BEGGING to stay at AOA next time. The food court at AOA is also way more spread out, where at POR it's all concentrated in one little L shape and easily gets congested at normal mealtimes. And yes there is a TS there, but the whole 9 days we were there barely anyone was there. The entertainment is in a tiny spot and not really geared towards kids. And the worst part of POR, the busses. They share with POFQ, make tons of stops, and is often full when you need to get on. (and there is no stop near the Royal Rooms) And except for MK, they're the furthest away. AOA busses always were lapping the POR/POFQ busses. And if the AOA bus is full, you can just hop on the Pop bus and walk over, which would be pretty darn close to the LM rooms at AOA.
My goodness, you certainly are quite passionate in your zealous advocacy of AoA. I'm so happy for you that you have a resort you can find so enjoyable.

Perhaps you would allow the folks who feel a certain fondness for a different resort the courtesy of respecting their opinions as well?

One of the most fun things to do with a free evening. Seems like the whole place is having a ball- kids and adults alike.

I voted for Port Orleans Riverside, because of the larger room, extra sink, and the fact that you'd have a water slide at POR. It's just a relaxing resort to come back to after a hectic park day. Also, I just hate the idea of paying rack rate.

That being said, if she would love the Little Mermaid rooms I don't see how you can go wrong with AoA.

Maybe show her pictures of the two rooms and go from there?

If I may ask, who Yeehah Bob? Is his show good for younger kids (6yrs)? Is the show in the table service rest?

I'm with ya there.

We stayed in the royal rooms at POR last July and loved it. We had three girls (ages 3-10) and they loved it, especially the fireworks on the headboard.
Those headboards sound pretty cool.

Check out his website. He's awesome for all ages! He gets the whole audience involved.

He plays in the River Roost Lounge:
