Stay night before...at WDW or...?

Planning our first trip to WDW/DCL with a split-stay at WDW before and after the cruise for October 2014. Looking at Oct 2013 (as fall '14 not available yet) to get a rough idea of timing, pricing etc.

Is it better to stay at WDW, check out the morning of the cruise and head to Pot Canaveral from there or better to stay somewhere closer to port? We are a family of six so would need either a hotel suite or two cheaper rooms. We are looking at ASM before and AoA afterwards, so it'd be approx $200 for ASM that last night. Could we find a better-priced hotel?

On the way back to WDW, check in to resort same day as debarking ship?

People have done it either way. We were going to stay onsite at WDW the one night before our cruise, but then decided that we could get a much cheaper hotel room near the port. If you are budget-minded, staying near port will likely be the most economical choice; I think (not certain) that the Country Inn (or maybe it's one of the others) has suites that sleep 6. You might also want to consider what your transportation plans will be for getting to the port. We opted for a one-way car rental from MCO to port, again less expensive than DCL transfers from the resort. But staying at WDW and using DCL transfers can "add" to the Disney magic and sort of start things off nicely if you like that idea. You can't go wrong either way.

We did take DCL transfers from port to WDW after the cruise, checked in at CBR and at the pool by 9:30am.

Enjoy your cruise!
