Share your..... Steam Trains!
I don't believe i've seen a thread for this on here before, so as I was at a 'modern' steam train departure this morning thought I would share and ask everyone to do the same!
Headed to Upminster Station this morning for the planned departure of the Class A1 'Tornado' - a Steam Locomotive built a couple of years ago by the National Railway Museum Trust, and purposely modernised with the necessary equipment to operate on today's main lines. In-cab radios, AWS warnings, advance signal notifiers all present in this beautifully crafted loco. Not having had a chance to see it up close since it came into operation, figured I would head down and see it, and snap off a few shots. Here's the results, but it does make me want for an ultra-wide angle lens for when I was standing less than three feet away from it!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Walt Disney loved trains, it seems natural that people who like Disney parks are into trains too. The story of A1 Tornado is quite amazing, a new steam locomotive!
Southern Railroad 630 is almost new, after a ten year restoration every part of the locomotive was rebuilt or newly fabricated at a shop in Chattanooga TN. The CEO of Norfolk Southern cleared the way for this 1904 locomotive to travel on the mainline of the railway and 630 embarked on a several thousand mile trip around the Southeast US this Summer, gathering crowds like a rock star. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 630 has a special connection to us, DW's Grandfather was the conductor assigned to this locomotive when it retired from active service in 1952. We saw (and rode behind) 630 in June 2012 at the North Carolina Museum of Transportation in Spencer NC, a really fun day!

I would highly recommend the Behind the Magic of our Steam Trains tour at WDW. With that, here are some of my pics of the UP 844 and some other Magical Steam Trains...
