Wow, I have been a bad Dis bride. To be completely honest, I've been wrapped up in the facebook group and don't bounce over here very often. Plus, there really hasn't been many updates yet. I'm still scared to death to go dress shopping (it's something I need to get myself psyched up for), plus I'm waiting for it to get cold here in TX. I do realize it's going to be hot in September for my wedding, but I really don't want to try on dresses while it's 85 degrees outside. So I'm putting it off just a little bit longer :-)

Our PS is just under 4 weeks away! It's crazy that it's coming up already. We won't be able to do any food tasting since it's Christmas Eve and we are meeting with a substitute planner, but I guess it will all be good. We're hoping to maybe come back in January for the food tasting and saying hi to Pamela. It's just really hard with opening the business and all.

Our PS/Christmas trip is going to be absolutely packed. We get there late on the 21st (Friday), Saturday we have Candlelight Processional dinner and show, Sunday is hair and makeup trial and engagement photos with the Arndt's followed by dinner in the Queen Victoria Room at V&A's (notice how I did that AFTER the pictures ), Monday is the planning session, Tuesday is Christmas, and we leave really early Wednesday morning so I can go back to work for a few days. I'll need a vacation from my vacation.

I have made a decision about the party favors, but I'm wanting to keep it a secret for a little while... maybe even leading up to the wedding! They will double as escort cards as well.

I have gotten back about half of the pre-RSVP's and I'm at 125 confirmed guests. Yikes. I looked at the rest and figured out who I'm actually expecting to show up, and it looks like we'll probably be at about 140-150. Because of this, I'm just thinking about doing our cake and Mickey ice cream bars at the dessert party. What do you guys think? Even at $25 a person for the desserts, we are talking an extra $3500.

I too get wrapped up in the facebook group and I am not here as much as I should be.

Your PS sounds like fun! I am jealous that you will be there at Christmas. I have never been there around that time and the parks look so pretty. Maybe soon.

I was reading some of your journal, and one of the reasons for why your picked September 1 is the same reason I did. I figured if people couldn't miss work they would be able to come Saturday leave Monday. Great minds think alike.

I think cake and ice cream bars would be more than enough. I have heard from other girls that a lot of the desserts don't get eaten after a dinner anyway because everyone is full. I know I would be happy with cake and ice cream!

Finally

I finally made an account for Disboards. I simply couldn't miss out on anymore of my sister's posts. If you have been following, that makes me the MAID OF HONOR! Yes, I am the infamous girl who doesn't think that red white and blue can be wedding colors! I just wanted to say, that I am so proud of my sister for always being an inspiration to me. You never know, but I look up to you more than you know. I can't wait to be your MOH and I am so honored that you chose me! I am disappointed that I can't post about your bridal shower (BS, since I know y'all use the coolio abbreviations), since it is supposed to be a surprise. I can't wait to see you in 8 days!!!

Love ya,

Planning Session Trip Report- Day 1 and 2

Hi Guys! Merry Christmas!

Sitting out on my balcony at Bay Lake Towers right now over looking the Seven Seas Lagoon, and the MK, and thought I would start writing my TR while my parents take a nap. I certainly won't get to all of it now, and I definitely won't be posting pictures just yet, but this is stuff you won't want to miss!

What a view...

Want a sneak peek? Today, my parents surprised my sister, fiance, and I with a premium VIP tour. 6 1/2 hours of running around all 4 parks, walking into every FastPass entrance, and knocking out all the big rides on one of the busiest days of the year. All the gory details to follow...

We arrived on Friday, December 21 after I worked in the morning and Nick and I drove to Austin from College Station. My parents and sister arrived in Orlando earlier in the day and headed to EPCOT. EPCOT had EMH at night until 12:30 so we planned on going there after we landed and took Magical Express to the Contemporary. When we landed, some of my friends from chiropractic school in Florida texted me and said "don't get on the bus, we're coming to get you!" They wanted to grab dinner, and since she is one of my bridesmaids, we definitely couldn't pass that one up. They brought us over to the Contemporary to check in, and we went up to Top of the World on top Bay Lake Towers to watch the Very Merry Christmas Party Fireworks. We went inside and had drinks and appetizers (instead of dinner). It was super fun and great to catch up with old friends.

We were headed over to the TTC to catch the monorail over to EPCOT when my parents called and said they were heading back to the room because it was absolutely freezing at EPCOT. So, Nick and I stayed in the room and relaxed a little and unpacked.

On Saturday, we got up and Nick and I went to the Contempo Cafe for breakfast. My sister, Nick, and I then headed over the Magic Kingdom. We headed straight for the New Fantasyland and Be Our Guest. It was about 10:30 and we weren't hungry, but wanted an excuse to go inside. So we went in and got cupcakes and hot chocolate! Be Our Guest counter service is pretty neat. You order your food at a touch screen and they give you a "magic rose" that you put in the middle of your table. The rose has RFID technology in it that tells them where to bring your food to. The strawberry cupcake was delicious, but the inside was absolutely amazing! There were 3 dining rooms. I can't wait to eat there for dinner some day.

My parents got there by that point, and we picked up Fastpasses for the new Little Mermaid Ride. Think Nemo and Friends but Little Mermaid. Nothing too exciting in my opinion. Rode It's a Small World, Haunted Mansion, ate at Liberty Tree Tavern, rode Jungle Cruise and Pirates. We had to stop at Guest Relations to fix some annual pass stuff, and I only include this in because you'll see it plays a part in our Christmas surprise! My mom said something funny to him when we walked up, but she blew it off and I didn't think anything of it.

We came back to the room and relaxed a little and then headed to EPCOT for our Candlelight Processional dinner package. We were seeing the 8:15 show with 5:30 dinner reservations at Chefs de France. The food was pretty good, although I've definitely had better. Candlelight Processional is by far one of my most favorite things Disney puts on, and this year was no different. Our narrator was Trace Adkins, and the chorus was strong as always. It sends chills down my spine every time I hear it. We then ran to the front of the park to beat the Illuminations crowd out...

Still to come- hair and make up trial, dinner at Victoria and Albert's Queen Victoria Room, Planning Session, and Premium VIP tour on Christmas Day!

Day 3- Hair and Makeup Trial, Engagement Photos, and Victoria and Albertís

Day 3- Hair and Makeup Trial, Engagement Photos, and Victoria and Alberts

Today was my hair and makeup trial with Beaute Speciale and our engagement photos with David and Vicki Arndt. Nick and I enjoyed a bigger breakfast at the Wave breakfast buffet, and my girl from Beaute showed up right at 11. My parents left the room to head to the outlet mall, and Allie (my sister) was kind enough to stay behind and hang out with me. First up was the wedding hair. I knew that I wanted it halfway up and halfway down, but I didnt know exactly how to go about that. She did a great job listening to me and coming up with her own spin on it. I loved the wedding hair! She then changed it up for the engagement photos. Honestly, it took a little time to grow on me, but Im used to my hair just being straightened and down. My sister assured me that it looked great though, so we charged on to make up. I dont wear makeup often, and when i do, its not much. Well, she did a fabulous job with the makeup. I couldnt believe I was looking at myself.

We hung out for a little bit until it was time to get ready for the engagement photos with David and Vicki. We met them down at the lobby of The Contemporary, and they were great! We took a few pictures there, headed to The Boardwalk, took a bunch of pictures there, and then headed to the WP. There was a Wishes wedding about to start, so we worked around every thing going on with that and took pictures down there. While the wedding was going on, the carriage looped around to wait for the ceremony to be over, and they let us take pictures with it! It was really neat. During this time of year, you only get 4 ponies because the other 2 are in the Magic Kingdom or Christmas stuff. I joked and asked if you get a discount for less horsepower *groan*...

We then did a quick change, David and Vicki were kind enough to snap a few Christmas photos for my family in front of the Christmas tree at the Grand Floridian. We said goodbye and headed upstairs to Victoria and Alberts for our Christmas Dinner (even though it was the 23rd... it was the only day we could get). We sat in the Queen Victoria Room to start on our 11 courses! What an experience. The whole thing took about 4 hours. This is the second time weve done this room, and honestly, I think from here on out, we would be fine with the main dining room. Its just too big of a production. Ill post some pictures of some of the courses.

Here are some pictures from dinner:

Appetizers:

Cold Chilled Lamb with Liquid Nitrogen:

Teriyaki Salmon:

Half Eaten Elk:

Half Eaten Cheese:

First Dessert (the only one I ate because Im not a huge fan of chocolate):

Chocolate Dessert:

With a Chocolate Shooter:

Coffee Brewed in a Vacuum Pot:

Chocolates that Got to Go:

From there we headed back to the room to get some rest before our planning session in the morning. Well, Nick and I went up to Top of the World for a drink, but that didnt last long as I almost fell asleep on the middle of the bench.

Planning Session, Hollywood Studios, and Downtown Disney

Day 4- Planning Session, Hollywood Studios, and Downtown Disney

We woke up excited for today as it was our planning session! We definitely wanted my parents to be at the planning session, and this was the only time we could all go down, so we had to meet with a substitute planner (Diane Bowen) and didnt get a menu tasting.

My mom, dad, Nick, and I headed off to Francks while my sister headed off for a Segway tour at EPCOT. Word for the wise here... be prepared to sit for a while during your Planning Session. Its a long session even though I already had done all of my homework and had everything planned. I was definitely getting antsy towards the end. They basically just walk through the whole planning packet with you and discuss things that needed to be changed. We talked about how people were getting around and this was something I had no idea how that happened. The bridal party will be staying at the Contemporary but the groomsmen will be staying at the Boardwalk, so there were a lot of coordination issues. Turns out we are just getting one limo that are going to make a lot of trips. I am really nervous to get the BEO because I think we went overboard on a lot of stuff! But, some things my parents really wanted. Like we definitely wanted Minnie and Mickey there, but we also added tacky tourists. I didnt think we were going to do centerpieces (maybe some candles), but we compromised for some candelabras with flowers inside. And a lot of petals. I wish we could get those in bulk order from Sams Club or something lol. Fun fact, when you want red rose petals on the aisle, those have to be silk. They worry about them sweating and staining the carpet. Petals used anywhere else (on tables, for the petal toss, etc) are real rose petals. Just not on the carpet.

I had a swatch of bridesmaids fabric from Davids Bridal and Alfred Angelo in the cobalt blue and they showed me their swatch from their ribbon, and even though I had picked out the dress from Davids, the Alfred Angelo matches a lot better. So I guess we are going with Alfred Angelo then! I am so glad we havent bought dresses yet. I would say to definitely wait until after your planning session and meeting with your florist to determine where you will be getting dresses from. Pick up a few different swatches from the different stores and bring them with you!

This is what my dad thought of the whole thing:

After we were done with Diane, we ran over to the Wedding Pavilion and checked everything out. Its very beautiful and some of us may have gotten a little emotional.

The obligatory Wedding Pavilion Picture:

When we got back, it was time for the fun part! Cake tasting!

We are having a tiered cake and a sheet cake. Heres what we have:

Top and Bottom Tier- Almond and White Chocolate Mousse

Middle Tier- Almond with Strawberry Mousse with fresh strawberries

Sheet Cake- Red Velvet and Cream Cheese

Grooms Cake- Marble with Amaretto Mousse

I have to say Michelle from floral was a pleasure to work with. She showed us many different options and helped us stay within our floral budget from the beginning. Wasnt a huge fan of Diane- she was a bit too military like for me. But luckily I have Pamela for the wedding day and everything should be just peachy :-)

From there we went over the Boardwalk to meet with the head of catering over there so he could open up Atlantic Dance Hall and check it out. It was really helpful to see everything, especially because we are going to have 150+ people and are going to have to use existing seating. Diane wasnt expecting us to do a site visit, which I guess was my fault, but make sure you let them know about that beforehand. They made it work Disney style, but I guess I should have said something. It was just kind of weird with a substitute planner.

Nick, Allie, and I headed off to Hollywood Studios while my parents went back to their room to take a nap. It was pretty crowded so we just did some of the shows and stuff. We were really there to see the Osborne lights so we were waiting for it to get dark.

My parents had napped at that point, and we met up with them at Downtown Disney. No direct transportation from Hollywood Studios to Downtown Disney, so we took a cab. Good use of $10. We checked out Splitsville, which was really cool. We didnt bowl, but Im pretty sure Im going to push for that to be my bachelorette party location. I picked up my bridesmaids gifts from World of Disney too (gotta love that 20% off). We also applied for a Disney Premium Visa. We have the regular Visa, but turns out the premium gives you 2% back on Disney purchases. With the wedding coming up, that will be a lot of money we are getting back from it was we plan to pay for everything with DFTW on that card. We also got $200 in Disney Gift Cards for signing up, which we used immediately to pay for the bridesmaids gifts. We ate dinner at Wolfgang Puck and headed back to the room to open Christmas presents.

My mom had brought this cute little tree.

Day 5- Also Known as ďThe Best Day of My LifeĒ

Day 5- Also Known as ďThe Best Day of My LifeĒ

We woke up bright and early on Christmas morning after a terrible night sleeping (my mom got sick, the iPod dock went off and wouldnít shut up even after unplugging it, I laid in bed nauseous for 2 hours after helping my mom while she was sick, dadís alarm went off an hour early, etc) for Christmas mass. Normally, we go to Mary Queen of the Universe Shrine off property, but we didnít have a car this time. We were going to take cab over there until we found out that Mary Queen of the Universe actually puts on a Christmas morning mass at the Contemporary ball rooms. So we went there for mass at 8- it was very convenient. Throughout mass, I was pretty sure that I was going to be sick.

I knew that Christmas day was going to be extremely packed and I was ready to get to the parks as soon as possible. When we got back to the room to change, my dad decided he wanted to take a nap. I was frustrated inside because I knew how crazy the parks were going to be, but I decided to pack my bags instead because I knew he would feel better after a nap.

My sister and I also found a little package from Santa:

Finally, at 10, my parents decided we could head downstairs and head to the Magic Kingdom. While we were on the elevator I was discussing our Fastpass strategy for the day. My dad said we shouldnít have to worry about it because he was going to use his charm to get in all the Fastpass lines. Heís a big joker, so I just blew this off.

Well, we head out the lobby of Bay Lake Towers, where I see a guest relations guy standing there with a suburban for us. Immediately stuff started rolling through my head... I knew what he was there for! One of our family friends had done a Premium VIP tour before, and that was our Christmas surprise! Remember back a few days ago when my mom said something weird to the Guest Relations guy? Turns out he was the one who was doing our tour and she recognized his name tag! She didnít want him to say anything when he saw our last name on our annual passes. We had him for 6 hours to do whatever we wanted in any park.

Iím not a person to get overly excited outwardly, and Iím dancing in the parking lot going ďthis is the best day of my life!!Ē Hereís how it works: you are brought backstage in your vehicle to the closest entrance to a ride. You usually show up in the gift shop following the ride, walk out front, and get in the Fastpass line. They have immediate access tours where you donít have to wait in the Fastpass line, but thatís for high profile people. For instance, he said Michael Jacksonís family was in the park that day on that type of tour. On the busiest day of the year, we were going to be going to all 4 parks and riding anything we wanted.

We started off at the MK and rode Space Mountain. We were going to do Buzz, but the Fastpass line was really long and not moving and so we got out of line. The only other thing we could think of doing was Big Thunder, but since we knew were were going to hit Everest, we skipped that one and headed for EPCOT. I felt so bad when we were leaving Magic Kingdom. They had closed the park and there was traffic backed up for miles and miles and miles. I canít even imagine how badly the parents must have felt to wake up their kids, say they were going to the park, and get turned away. I heard they got up to Level 2 (out of 4) closure on the Magic Kingdom that day, and all the parks had some sort of closure at some point.

We went into the back of Test Track and rode it. I think Iím a bigger fan of the old Test Track, but maybe that was because in the Fast Pass line you donít really get to design your car like you do in the regular standby line. We then drove around the back of the World Showcase and went into the Land and rode Soariní. We had originally had lunch reservations at Crystal Palace, but I asked my mom to cancel that when I found out what we were doing so we didnít waste time eating. We ate at the Seasons counter service in the Land and rode on Soariní again.

We got back in the van and went over to Animal Kingdom. We parked over by Dinoland and walked over to Everest. I thought it was cool how our tour guide (Buck) rode everything with us. He was so funny because he would make crazy poses in all the pictures. Here is some of our party waiting in line with Buck to board Everest.

We walked over to Kilimanjaro Safaris, but once again, the FastPass line was crazy long and we decided to skip it in the name of time. So back into the van we went to our last stop- Hollywood Studios.

We walked in right behind Toy Story Mania and rode it. Buck had some great tips for us, and rode with my sister the first time to show her some tricks. Here are my parents:

My dadís stomach was still hurting him, so he decided to head back to the room at this point while we finished up riding everything. We rode Toy Story Mania again (standby was 145 minutes at this point), and I rode with him this time to see some of the tricks. We hopped in the van and went right behind Rock n Roller Coaster. Got in the Fastpass line for that, and something broke, so we went over and did Tower of Terror while that got figured out. Went back to Rock n Roller Coaster and everything was working, so we rode that. At this point, we were pretty pooped so Buck brought us back to the Contemporary and we sadly had to say goodbye :-(

Funny thing is, we invited him to the wedding. Like have his address and his girlfriendís name so that we can send them an invitation.

We relaxed a little in the room (well Allie and I watched some cool videos on a website that Buck told us about- www.martinsvids.net) We had reservations at Yachtsmanís Steakhouse for dinner because my dad really loves it and I thought it would be a nice Christmas dinner. Well, he still wasnít feeling well, so we left him in the room and walked to the MK to catch a bus to the Yacht and Beach Club. When we got to the Yacht Club, we found out that there was a set menu for the night. My mom was very upset because we were never told this during the booking process and there wasnít anything she liked on the menu. We stayed and halfway enjoyed the dinner, but it just wasnít what we were expecting. We took the bus back to the MK so we could walk back to Bay Lake Towers. Nick and I ran into MK to meet Buck at Guest Services so he could hook us up with some ďIím CelebratingĒ pins for welcome bags for the guests. We also went over to Photopass and got a bunch of Photopass cards for our guests. I felt like I was seeing an old friend with Buck! I really hope they come to the wedding.

Wishes were about to start, and while I would have loved to stay and watch it (we had already watched it twice from Top of the World at Bay Lake Towers), I didnít want to deal with the crowds after. So we left and went back to the hotel to pack up. Magical Express was going to pick us up at 6:10, so we had to get to bed relatively early!

Well, thatís the end of my PS trip report. Iím sitting on the airplane now flying home and just finished typing it. We had a few glitches this morning- the first was the computer program locked up at airline checkin and she basically told us tough luck gotta check in at the airport. I tried telling her to just control + alt + delete the program and restart it, but she had no idea what I was talking about. This was incredibly frustrating as one of the main reasons we stay on property is so that we can dump our bags with them and not have to deal with all of the stress at the airport. Then, when I was checking my bags with Southwest, the lady forgot to give me my ID back and I didnít realize it until later. Our Magical Express bus drive, George Moore, was fabulous though, and Disney will be getting a positive communication about him from me. I hope something good happens for him in addition to the nice tip we gave him.

Oh... and one other thing... I have a seminar in January in Orlando so we get to do our menu tasting then and meet Pamela! So happy about that! I found flights on Jetblue for $200 round trip per person.

I felt like we got a lot accomplished on this trip and I truly feel like we are getting married at Disney World now!

Just found your trip report - awesome recap! Buck is so cute! My friend Meg had the vip job at wdw pre-kids - I love seeing old pics of her in her plaid outfit! Thanks for the link to the video website. I've been second guessing my Fantasmic dessert party - but seeing the recap reminds me of why I love it so much. So pumped now!
I love the red white and blue - I think it will be great!
I also love Lyndsay's unity cross - I'm planning on doing something similar at our wedding - but hopefully with a stained glass cross and a frame.
