Castaway Cay Club Reception?

We're sailing on the Jan. 12 Fantasy cruise and I've seen a reference to a Castaway Cay Club Reception. Where would you get information about this? We also DVC members and we understand that they have a gathering at about 2:30 on embarkation day.

In my experience, the DVC member celebration has always been like 11 am on the first sea day. I've not seen a DVC thing at 2:30 on embarkation day.

If you are a gold or platinum CC member, you should get an invitation to the reception delivered to your room. The reception will consist of servers with some limited munchies, free drinks (soft drinks are available on request, also free), a visit with photo op from Captain Mickey, and a short talk by the CD who will then introduce the Captain. The Captain's talk varies...sometimes he just does the "thank you" speech, other times you may get little hints or flat out announcements of what's coming.

Thanks, kcashner! I may have gotten confused about the time of the DVC celebration.

One of our last cruises that was a shorter (4 night) cruise the DVC celebration was on Embarkation Day in the afternoon.

Our last two 4-night cruises aboard the Dream had the DVC Member Celebration at 2:30 pm on Embarkation day. DVC reps indicated this was due to limited time to give the sales pitch to non-members.

On shorter cruises, the DVC reception is at other times...but OP is on a 7 night Fantasy cruise. On both Eastern and Western, it is typically on Sunday morning.

Well, it looks like we'll have to check into it when we board. We'll be prepared to attend if it's at 2:30. Is the DVC celebration basically a sales pitch? That might change our mind.

It is a sales pitch but you can also pick up some goodies. The offer is normally a good one but just depends if you have a few spare thousand $$$$$$!!

In my experience (and we've attended 8 member gatherings) it's a sales pitch/trivia game with prizes given out. They've also sometimes done member bingo as an ice breaker, and usually pass out hats/lanyards to all attendees. I've found it's usually worth an hour of my time.

One plus - they usually do a drawing for a shipboard credit at the end - and you have to stay to win - so make sure to stick around! We've never won the drawing, but usually come out with some kind of prize (beach towel, document case, etc.)

That said, we did end up adding on during one cruise - so the sales pitch can work, too! Typically, the deals for adding on on the ship are the best you can get, involving the standard point discount, plus extras, usually including a shipboard credit based on the number of points purchased.

No reception for silver. The numbers just got too great.

Note--this thread references 2 different things--the DVC member celebration is for all DVC members/families. The Castaway reception is for gold and platinum Castaway Club members. Both are by invitation , but if you don't get an invitation and fit the requirements, ask about it!
