Various Replies

First of all, thanks, everyone, for stopping by. I actually did not notice the varieties of dress code until mentioned here and I looked back at the photos. I have to agree that the tables were a little crowded - I just thought it was because they had to put out all the wine glasses ahead of time, which rather quickly start to disappear after each course. It would make sense that 8 would fit better than 10, but having only experienced the "10 set up" I did not think about how it could be better with 8. Makes sense.

Since I am currently sitting in my room at SSR when I should be at the fitness center doing my PT (right hand still pretty stiff and sore), I will post a couple more courses and check back later.

p.s. - for the CaliGrill lovers - please note the link in my signature to CG pictures since turning digital in 2006!

Intermezzo - Poached Pear

Poached Pear Sorbet with Apple Gel and Almond Foam

DH view, and a photo that does the dish justice

Fifth Course - Bison Tenderloin

Bison Tenderloin with Roasted Autumn Squash Custard, Braised Baby Vegetables and Sauce Bordelaise

Silver Oak Cbernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, 2006

I ate all my veggies, but only tasted the bison (too full!), taking the remainder home for breakfast. Chef Brian said he cooked it "sous vide" at 200 degrees since noon....

At this point, everyone is on good terms with their wine neighbor (from DH camera)!

Fromage Course

The 3 Legged Goat - A selection of Three Unique Goat Cheeses

Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley, 2007

... during which, we took a break for Hallo-wishes from the CG balconey. Here, a view toward BLT Top of the World Lounge (where, they too, were watching the fireworks)

... including this shot, because my son actually commented, out loud, that he appreciated the detail that that fireworks designer put into choosing these particular fireworks (looks like Ka's eyes) to go along with the Ka music ("Trust in me") at that point in the show, despite the fact that, probably, few people would notice ...

I do have some pictures, but they are not a source of photographic pride, just fond memories. Stay tuned!

Seventh Course - Dessert

Warm Neuskee's Bacon Pudding with Compressed Heirloom Apple, Apply Jelly and Salted Caramel

The Macallan Highland Single Malt, Eighteen Years Old

... side view

Michael, pouring the Macallan

Macallan Man, offering a toast to the fine meal

... hear, hear ...

At this point, people were heading out the door, at least a dozen ignoring the Macallan. I was really tempted to pour a couple untouched glasses on the table into my glass and finish in the bar, but for some unknown reason, I did not!!

Still to come - wrap up!

Closing comments (mine)

Normally, I can keyboard almost as fast as I can form a thought - but with my right hand slowly rehabbing, I am slower, less accurate and it hurts!

... me & my blue cast - with Jeff and "the lady who sat next to me" (taken by DH, with his camera)

Therefore, I will keep my assessment to a minimum...

1. Would I do it again? Yes - although not knowing WHEN it will be held is always a potential limitor. Most of us are booking our DVC now, to be followed in a few months with SWA - and only after that do we find out the F&W schedule.

What did I particularly like?
a. Variety of food ingredients - squab? You don't see that with the dining plan anymore. One of my favorite meals last year (in Buffalo, NY) was a "hunt" meal of all local game - venison, rabbit, sweetbreads, pork kidneys (OK, I did not actually like the pork kidneys, but at least I tried them - pungent and gritty - must be an acquired taste) - you don't get this kind of menu option too often!
b. Wine - all excellent; Jeff clearly takes pride in the selections and there were delish
c. Company - everyone I talked to was interesting - the lady beside me works for ESPN and we had a lovely chat about anything between her avid following of the Yankees game that night on her phone!
d. CG Staff - all gracious, cheerful - so nice to interact with!
e. Location - CG still has the best view of any restaurant on property
2. Would I recommend it to others? Yes, assuming you like what you see here!

3. What, if changed, would make it even better? Mind you, these are nits and did not even nominally affect my enjoyment of the evening.....
a. Centerpiece - Flowers vs Weeds (kidding) - I appreciate what they were attempting to do - that is, sustainable, natural - but, even when fresh, I missed the beauty of last years flowers. By evening's end, the herbs looked more like weeds (droopy - notice on right hand side of picture above). Here is a photo from last year - centepiece, with color-complemnetary friandise
b. Real Estate - I am still debating in my head about the 8 or 10 per table. More space would be nice in the beginning, but I kind of like the "forced closeness" with my neighbors - it almost demands that you get to know people other than those you came with - which I always enjoy!

Loved the review Ellen - wonderful pictures (except for that last one with yours truly).

We have our fingers crossed that we see you next year!

Glad to know the pictures helped you to try it - I will definitely do this again IF we are in town the night it is held. Does anyone know when that it yet? Seems to be around the 3rd Thursday of October - wonder if the renovations change anything?
