When do you use your passports?

Just curious, at what point do you present your passports/Id? Is it just when you board the ship for the first day and then again on the last day? Or must you present it each time you get off and on at islands? In our case, ports Grand Cayman and Cozumel?

You only need to show them when you check in at the port and when you disembark on the last morning. You don't need them at any of the port stops, but anyone 18 and over must have a photo ID to leave the ship and to reboard at the ports. Some people advocate taking passports with you when you get off at the ports, just in case something happens and you need them.

There is some reason not to take the passports off the ship. For example of they are lost or stolen. We generally leave them in our stateroom safe. Take the emergency ship number with you that way if something happens in port Disney can get your documents an or things to you.

My thoughts are in the other camp that you should always take your passports with you when in a foreign port. It is all fine to have DCL's number and have them get you your stuff, except when God forbid, you miss the ship and cannot get to the next port because you do not have a passport to fly and have to get an emergency passport issued which takes time. JMHO.

I take my passport and leave a copy in my stateroom and at home. I felt more comfortable taking that in case of an emergency. We never had to show it except for boarding and disembarking.

I do wish that I had taken my passport to get stamped at the foreign ports. It would have been a neat souvenir.

It is true that you must show your passport when you check in at the terminal and when you return to the US port to disembark. To get on and off the ship, everyone needs to show a KTTW card and adults need a photo ID.

While most foreign ports are very cooperative when guests want passports stamped, in Canada we were refused. The agents just said they didn't do that; it wasn't necessary. DD was not happy.
