Do you think DCL might be getting in some of the required Port Canaveral dockings (required by contract with the port authority) in preparation for something special on one of the ships? Maybe later in 2014? We can always hope, right?

Hmmm, maybe Southern Caribbean out of San Juan? I might jump on that especially since SW is going to start flying to San Juan.

That is a very good point. I haven't heard any rumors, but it would help explain why the Magic is doing 3/4 night runs instead of 7 night.

We can dream about that happening, but that would mean that DCL is thinking of something other than the almighty dollar.

Would love to go on a southern cruise.

I think that DCL is moving all of the ships to Florida next winter to try to expand its cruise market.

What better way than to tie more 3 and 4 days cruises with people to maybe add on to their already planned Disney vacations. A short cruise with a little time seeing WDW and New Fantasyland, nice winter and spring break vacation.

Seems like this is what we will wind up doing, short cruise with a land vaca. I would have preferred to sail the Fantasy again during kids summer vacation but the rates are outrageous! The per diems on the longer cruise are actually HIGHER than on the short cruises during the same week (Dream vs Fantasy) for the categories we are interested in. I never saw that before with exception of specialty cruises.

If my deposit was refundable, I certainly would walk away.

According to a publication from the Port Canaveral Authority in 2008 when the contract with DCL was extended:

"After leaving the German shipbuilding yard in 2011 and 2012, [the Dream and Fantasy will]... call Port Canaveral home until at least December 31, 2014.

The agreement also ensures that some combination of Disney’s four ships will
remain based at Canaveral through 2023, making a combined total of 150
sailings every year — a requirement the Port made to maintain Disney’s
exclusivity on the custom-built terminal at Canaveral."

I take that to mean that home porting the Wonder in Spring, 2014 won't have any impact on the Dream or Fantasy through 2014. After 2014, Disney will need to average around 3 sailings per week from PC, so there will be an advantage to home porting the Magic or Wonder there in 2015 and beyond. -- Suzanne

I was aware that the Dream and Fantasy couldn't relocate based on the contract, but before this new contract, DCL ran low on the required number of dockings at Port Canaveral. They managed to re-negotiate the contract and avoid a huge penalty.

I believe that the required numbers were missed because hurricanes closed PC (the ships docked in Galveston and Fort Lauderdale); and DCL had planned it down to the wire. It makes a lot more sense for them to get in the necessary dockings and even some extras.

Who knows what their thinking is though?
