That gets my vote. OP, you can only use that box if you get her the mixer....

Phew! Glad I'm not the only one who thought the trick box was mean! I thought I might get raked over the coals for being no fun or something. I just remember that before I got my mixer, I really, really wanted one (there was probably many a thread about it back in the day.)

I, too, love my mixer. I know love is a strong word but I'm thinking that it is appropriate.

Ok, good. I'm not the first person to read the OP and think, well a trip to Vegas is nice, especially since they haven't been on a vacation, but I'd be a bit ticked. I adore my Kitchen-Aid. Last year my mom decided she wanted the one she left at the house 3 years prior and never asked for in that time back, and my wonderful boyfriend told me "fine, if she wants it back so badly all of a sudden give it to her, but I'm getting you an even better model since you actually use yours." I'd have been so upset to open the box, get all excited about my new mixer, and then open the box to take it out and try it only for the box to contain something else (even if it was a trip)

That's what I was thinking. I've always wanted a Kitchen Aid mixer and I know if I got a KA box I would be so excited. Not that a nice trip would be so bad, but honestly, Vegas? No thanks. I would feel a little bit cheated, I think.

Target sells gag boxes. I bought one for my brother for a family snuggie.

As everyone else already stated, do not use a KitchenAid Mixer box unless he is really going to purchase a mixer for her! It would be different if she was the type that hates getting appliances/kitchen items for gifts...but clearly she would love a KitchenAid mixer so it would be cruel to see her so excited to see the mixer box until she opens it and finds a piece of paper that says "just kidding, no mixer for you! We're going on a trip instead".

I would actually be very upset and hurt if that was the one item I asked for and was pranked like that. A trip is great and all, but it is here and gone in a week or less -- the mixer would last a lifetime. I would suggest either getting the mixer plus the trip, the mixer only, or just the trip. It's fine to prank her...just not with the mixer box. Maybe slip the plane tickets or note with a stupid gift, like a Snuggie as someone mentioned.

Costco has the 4.5 qt size on sale for $199. Great deal.

This. That way there is no disappointment.

I'll add to the chorus of people saying this (except that before I had my mixer I would have much preferred to get the mixer than the trip, so I would not have been "thrilled" --and it was 16 years before we finally got a kid free trip!).

Maybe you can show your coworker this thread if he still thinks using a kitchen aid box is a good idea.

coming from someone who has an 8 x 10 color photo posted on my fridge, dead center, of the Kitchen Aid of my dreams (5 quart with glass bowl in "Sugar Pearl")

i would be royally PISSED if my DH gave me just the box!!!!

wouldn't matter if there were a "WE'RE GOING TO VEGAS AND HAWAII AND VERSAILLES!!!!!" card inside

because that mixer had BETTER be in the house somewhere....

the saying "h*ll knows no fury like a woman scorned"????

same holds true for pretending with the Sugar Pearl.

Mixer love,

I remember when I went and picked mine out. It took me a long time to decide between white and biscuit.

Finally, the lady in the store said, "Well, they aren't much different and will be in the cabinet anyway."
No, no, I said. This baby sitting out on my counter like an object of art!

Many years later, I still like looking at it! I ended up choosing biscuit. Cross between white and cream. But these days, there are so many, many colors that it'd take me a week!

I have to agree with the majority, do NOT let him put the tickets in a box of something that the wife actually really wants. It won't matter if the gift inside is good (tickets to Vegas), she will be TICKED that it's not a Kitchen Aid! Kitchen Aids are awesome and expensive. It would be cruel.

Put the tickets in a box of something silly and unappealing.
