Disneyland, 4-5 weeks prgnant

SO we have a surprise trip in 4 days for our kids, and 3 days ago found out we are now expecting our 3rd child! Very excited, but I would lying if I said I wasn't a little let down about the prospect of having to miss out on all the big rides, particularly with having to miss out riding them with my 6yo who loves them all. This is going to be our last trip for awhile, even more special is that my parents are also going. By my dates I am probably just barely 4 weeks. Anyone ever been at this early stage of pregnancy? What were you able to ride? I discussed it with my doctor this morning, he said I don't need to worry as much about rides that are bumpy/a little jolting, but that rides with high g forces are not a good idea. (He specifically said splash mountain a time or two should be fine, which surprised me). But, I would like to hear some people's actual experiences/thoughts on this

He said TOT and California Screamin were out and he wasn't sure about RSR because he had never been on it.

My main questions are about BTMRR, Matterhorn, SM, RSR, etc...

I just followed all the signs at disneyland at about 6wks, if it had a pregnancy warning I didn't ride. If I had ridden something and then had a miscarriage or a baby born with any problem I would have always wondered if there was something I could have done differently, so the risk was just not worth it for me.

Congratulations though! You'll still be able to enjoy your kids excitement as they get off the rides and come screaming to tell you all about them.

First, congratulations!

I think it all has to do with your comfort level. A lot of people don't even know that they're pregnant at 4 weeks... We went to Disneyland last year when I was about that pregnant, and I didn't know at the time (I took a test 3 days after we got back) and I rode everything.

But the fact is that you do know that you're pregnant, so if you rode everything you wanted to ride, and something happened, there is a chance you would blame yourself.

I also visited WDW at 11 weeks, and DL at 16 weeks (different pregnancies!), and I chose to ride Space Mountain (at 11 weeks, not at 16 weeks), Splash Mountain, and the ToT. I did not ride BTMRR, RnRC, Matterhorn, Star Tours, or Mission Space or Everest (in WDW), because they seemed much more wild and bumpy to me. But that was my own comfort level - you need to make your own decisions based on your own comfort level. Some people will pick and choose the rides that they feel are safe, and some people will follow the "do not ride" advisories to the letter.

I would go with your doctor's orders about the rides with a high G force. Women have been pregnant for ages and things like bumpy rides are pretty normal parts of life. But high G forces are different.

There will always be other trips.

see here I was thinking nausea issues..... I had a small bottle of orange oil and that was great to sniff and help with the nausea. It was a huge issue for both my pg

I went to Disneyland while pregnant, a few months along, and I rode everything except TOT and CS. I was just fine, and so was my baby. They are so small then, and they are cushioned so much, it really doesn't do anything.

Also, wouldn't riding an airplane cause WAY more G force than a theme park ride?! And pregnant women do that all the way up to 8 months.

Thank you all so much!! I really appreciate the honest input, I was sort of afraid I might get flamed for even asking lol. Of course they don't HAVE their ride's g forces listed anywhere on the planet, LOL, my gut is telling me Splash and *maybe* Thunder and *maybe* even Matterhorn would be ok, but probably not Space,Indiana Jones, TOT, CS, ST, etc. What I can't figure out are RSR, Mater, Luigi, and GRR, because I have never been on those so I have no idea what they are actually like :/

I rode Space (its actually a very smooth ride), Thunder (it is kinda jerky, just hold on tight), Splash, Matterhorn, Indie...pretty much everything in Magic Kingdom. Do what you feel comfortable with though!

Honestly, that early you're probably ok riding anything at DL. Most people don't ven know they are pregnant yet.

Absolute YES for Radiator Springs, Flying Tires, and Mater. Radiator springs is just a car ride, Flying tires is super mild, and you can watch Mater to decide if you want to go. It's just a tractor that moves/swings you from side to side.

I would say that really, the only thing that would concern me at all would be screamin - that's really the only one with any g forces. TOT is actually reverse g's, with the dropping, which should be fine. I probably wouldn't ride Indy, it's just SO jerky and nutso, but I don't ride that one even when I'm not pregnant. LOL

Thank you so much for the input on RSR!!! That was one I was going to be SO sad to miss! Disney won't tell me what does or doesn't have g forces so thanks for the thoughts on that as well! I downloaded an app for my iphone that is supposed to measure them, I was thinking about having my sister take it on the rides first LOL!!

I agree its definitely about what you're comfortable doing. I tested after we got back from WDW last year and was in the early days of pregnancy and I rode everything. I will say that we spoke to a CM at TOT who told us that he had seen several heavily pregnant women ride TOT to try induce labour - whether he was serious or not I don't know but he did say it can be dangerous in early pregnancy as the drop can cause the embryo to tear away from the lining of the womb! It stuck with me cause we had been trying to conceive before we went to WDW and I was a few days late when I spoke to him. Whether he was telling the truth or not I didnt want to chance finding out and just didnt ride anything "extreme" after that!

When we went in April I didn't know I was pregnant and rode everything. Found out I was pregnant on our last day there. I stopped riding things just because I didn't want that guilt if something happened, I have had a miscarriage before. I would probably skip Big Thunder and Indy, those are both bumpy and Indy is really jerky. Anyway, it's doubtful it would cause a miscarriage, I just knew that it wasn't worth the risk to me. Those rides will still be there next time.

Oh, why risk it? I would just sit most things out. I know it's not what you want to do but just not worth it. You just never know.

There's really not much that one can do at that stage of pregnancy to cause or prevent a miscarriage. The fetus is so tiny at that stage and is quite well protected. Bouncing around on a roller coaster won't knock it loose. I rode every ride in our local theme park multiple times while in early pregnancy. The only ill effect I suffered was being queezy from riding Top Gun 6 times in a row.

We found out a month before our current trip (I was 8 weeks when we were there). It was a little bit of a letdown knowing I'd have to miss out on Splash and Big Thunder, but I got to spend more time with my youngest (since my oldest son is the daredevil and I do all the rides with him) so it worked out for the best. And I did get to do a lot and experience some new rides.

I was strongly discouraged from Splash Mountain - both because of the drop and because of the way the logs sometimes bump into each other.

I wasn't willing to risk it anyway - we tried for two years to have this baby and went through a lot of heartache to get here, so I wasn't about to do anything to risk it! Even if I rode a ride and something bad happened after that might have been completely unrelated, I never could've forgiven myself.

It was my choice to play it safe and I'm not sorry I did. I knew I would be back and a ride wasn't worth the risk .
