Renting Odd Number of Points

I keep seeing on the rent/trade boards 8 points, 29 points, etc available for rent. How do you do this? How can you make this work?

If there is availability, 8 points wouldn't even book 1 night in most cases. How could you use someone's odd 29 points if you needed 32 points to book 2 nights? Understand how a transfer works but in most cases these are for rentals only. Seems like a serious waste of a 1 time a year transfer to get so few points.

Genuinely curious about this. Need a little insight here. TIA.

Chances are they have these odd points left over that they forgot to bank and they are looking for somebody who needs just a few points to fill out a reservation. I have seen posts on the R / T board for people looking for 1 - 20 points for example.

Most (but not all) of those members understand this and are willing to add a few other points to round out a reservation. They would do this by either using points (unbanked) from the current Use Year or by borrowing from the next Use Year.

If they are not willing to make at least a 1 day reservation I would not deal with them but most realize what their "extra" points can be used for and are able to add some additional points to get rid of the ones they can't use.

This makes sense. I could see doing this to add/extend a day or two to an exisiting reservation. For some reason I just couldn't wrap my mind around it. Forest for the trees sort of thing. Thanks!

It happens...couple years back I ended up having 5 points and I got lucky that someone needed just 5 point to fill out a SSR vacation weekend. Right now I have a few points left but they are bankable and more then likely may be used in April, of course I'll have to borrow to make it happen. We shall see with flights still around $2000 for the family I'm not ready to pull that trigger yet.
